NC23 wont start only when jumped!

Post by petrolhead19 » Wed Oct 06, 2010 9:30 pm

Right for the past week after gettin my bike back from it being nicked i have had some problems.

When ever i gave it some the bike would just die all lights would go dim and the engine would cut out and not hold a proper idle then id change down gear and it would be fine again :S.

Today on my way to work went over fly over gave it a bit of throttle then was like it had a power serge just died pulled over to side of road and tried to get it started, all the lights and electrics work fine when i try to start it all it does is turns over like its not gettin a spark!!
Got it home (pushed it 6 miles) took it to bits checked all the wiring and all the connectors still nothing, so i got my jump leads out and jump started it from my mother in laws car (car wasnt running) and it fired up straight away, left it ticking over for about 5 mins turned it off then started it again no problem, so i put everything back together and tried to start it again but nothing just turns over :(. so it seems to be it will only start if its jump started.

Any ideas of what could be up with it?

The battery on it is practically brand new only had it for about 3 months.

Its starting to annoy me now this bike, spending all this money on it doing it up and other things just go wrong if i dont get it sorted soon im really thinking of selling it (which i dont want to do) :(

Some one help pleeeeeeeeeease

well i put a new reg rec on it today, started up with a bit of a cough and splutter then started idleing fine.
decided to take it for a quick spin got half way down road and oil started pissing out everywere :(
got back home looked closer and looks like who ever nicked it 2 weeks ago has done more damage than i thought.

Head gasket looks like its blown, oil leaking out the clutch casing, when i take the oil cap off and start it up its blowing air out like an exhaust and smells of petrol :S (think that could be due to the head gasket?)

So im taking it off the road tomoz and its gettin totally stripped every bit of it doing a complete full rebuild every bolt and screw is gettin replaced, and a fulkl engine rebuild, im dredding to start taking engine apart and seeing what damage the kn*b heads have done when they nicked it :(

Sorry to hear about that mate.. maybe you will need to put a claim in?

Smell of petrol in the oil could be due to your float heights in the carbs maybe? Could have been disrupted during the joy ride dumping to much fuel in...

you are supposed to get air out the filler cap - it is the windage in the crank case...the bottoms of the pistons displace a lot of air, just like the tops do..if you get me.

Sounds like you have a knackered charge circuit/battery/reg rec..

hmmm never really noticed it before air coming from oil cap, thats why i thought Wtf lol.

But anyways engine is now out bike is totally stripped and in my computer room lol (good job the other half is a motorbike mechanic i doesnt mind it being in the house haha)

going to strip the engine down on saturday see what the damage is, but i think the head gakster defo has gone cause there is oil seeping out of the head, bit silly when i only did head gasket about 3 months ago :(

Buuuuut on the up side i means i can get everything done to the bike that i want to now while its in bits :D.
