Help please-intermittent hesitancy problem!

Post by gyro » Sat Jul 31, 2010 1:47 am

Hi all, I need some help/advice please....

Ive had my NC30 5 months now with no major issues apart from a bust choke cable which Im hopefully fitting in the morning.....
I gave it in for a service/MOT and carbs balancing but since then have had a few issues.
Basically it either runs great or really shite.

When its ok, I can feel the difference made by sorting the carbs no more flat spots and just sounding more settled,
however I could be riding it and all of a sudden the revs seem to drop (more so if I open the throttle to save the situation) and it usually stalls. IF I can re-start the bike, it sounds totally off - at an idle and when I open the throttle. Trying to set off in 1st causes it to stall usually then too.
As its dying, it feels like it does when you need to turn the fuel tap to reserve, but it has 3/4 of a tankfull of juice.

Ive only ridden the bike 4 times (a mile or so each time) since I got my bike back and its happened on 2 of these trips.
First time, It stalled 3x, I managed to jump it 2 times and somehow the issue cleared for about 2-3minutes before stalling again and I had to get the bike recovered! Garage started it up with a boost and it behaved - couldnt find any problems at all.
Second time I managed to re-start the bike and really opened the throttle up, revving it hard (sounded well dodgy revving) and then I managed to get home with the bike behaving once again.

Read some of the other threads re: rec/reg probs but this sounds more a fuel prob?????
Also is it coincidence that it happened after the garage laid hands on my bike???? Could something be loose explaining why the problem is intermittent?????

Thanks for reading and for any ideas!!!!

Sounds like the carbs are running out of fuel.

Check to see whether the garage put the fuel tap vacuum line back on (on the fuel tap vertical spigot).

ive had simular probs in the past, first time it was just the carbs needed cleaning and second time it was the regulator, check the connector to the reg to see if its burnt out or scorched, it does sound more like fuel though

Id check the Vacuum pipe for kinks or splits!, especially if the carbs have been off!
