Rear Wheel Removal

I am taking the rear wheel off my NC30 for tyre fitting and have managed to release the nut which was a job in itself. Now however, the wheel just wont budge. I have soaked the join with WD40 overnight and tried using a rubber mallet without any movement whatsoever.
Am I missing something or is there a special tool or any other suggestions would be gratefully accepted.

no special tools just brute force. can get stuck on quite well sometimes, depending how long it has been since it was last off.

If the spacer and nut has been removed there is nothing stopping it being removed! i take it the wheel is off the ground?? its probably been on for a good few years. you just need to wd40 the gap between the hub and wheel leave it for a bit then tap the wheel with a rubber mallet turning the wheel around as you go!

It just needs a bit of persuasion!!

has the wheel been powdercoated at some time in its life ? if so then i bet the previous was too lazy to clean the inside mating edge up and as such its stuck fast.
only way is to get proper brutal with it.

best way to put the bike on a abba stand, localised head with a heat gun on the wheel itself near the centre, then with a mate and a block of 4x4 wood wrapped in towel on the end, place the wood post against the wheel and belt with a lump / sledge hammer. rotating as you belt it will come loose.
clean the inside of the wheel before refitting.

you could withdraw the wheel spindle and then batter it off with the spindle itself cocked at an angle.

not pretty but it works. you could do the same by taking out the spindle and sticking a drift in there

just persevere, it will give, ive had to smash lorry wheels off, and have acetyline torches to it, but in all fairness you need not go so extreme,

a quality rubber mallet or the lump hammer and wooden block are the best, make sure you apply copper grease to the inner face of the wheel when refitting as it wont stick again.

ive heard rumours of people putting the nut back in but not fully tight and then dropping the split pin in and riding down the road and try hiting a few pot holes i dont recomend it but some people have done this. and there wheel has loosened.

Go to page 26 in this section and fab up said wheel removal tool .I made this when i could not remove the rear wheel off my nc30.When replacing please do as other members said a good clean and plenty of copper slip.
