RC35 SPARK ISSUES

Post by TROUBLED OTTER » Mon May 31, 2010 2:27 pm

Hi,This is my first post on here so please be gentle.I have bought a NC35 for my wife and am going to fully restore it over the next 12 months. The bike has been left in the back of a garage for 3 years so got it home stripped the fairings of and drained the tank cleaned the air box and put a new battery on it.I wanted to make sure it ran before totally stripping it.She turns over,Oil is fine,Clutch plates are free but I cannot get a spark or power from both coils.Checked the wiring to see if there is a supply to them and thats fine. Please help.

Welcome to the site matey. You have picked a great bike. First thing you might want to change is your thread title to NC35 rather than RC35 you will get more people answering. I would suggest fitting new spark plugs, Spark plugs are prone to failing on these bikes, when you have done that give the carbs a little clean make sure the jets and float bowls are clean and correct. ( search for Dataracers guide to carbs on here, really useful). Once thats done charge the battery stick some fuel in the tank and try starting it with full choke no throttle. And see how you go from there!!!
Stick some pics up of the bike, we love piccys!!

Another area to look at would be the regulator/rectifier, also a few owners on here have had problems with th coils too.

Good luck
Kris

Its a bit unlikely for all 4 plugs to fail, if youv got a multimeter test for voltage from each coil input to the frame, with the kill switch off(as in to start the bike), should read your battery voltage& should be 12.5V or higher. If the coils are getting power clean the plugs especially around the electrode & with 3 still in the bike and attached, hold a removed plug against the frame and check for spark.. Check all fuses before trying anything

Yes tried cleaning the plugs and looking at the sparks.there very week and plugs look very old.I have also got 2 pipes from the tank which I think are breather pipes.Back left hand side as you sit on it.One thin long pipe which I think runs to the bottom of the bike and a thicker pipe which is about 10" long which I dont know were that goes. The other two are connected to the fuel tap as normal.Even with old plugs I would of thought it would at least fire or misfire but I get nothing.

As said above its probably the plugs then, if you narrow the electrode gap spark may improve but get some new ones.. On mine the pipe from the tank is a breather which branches into 2, the tank has the fuel line and vacuum pipe from cyl #3 to the tap..

Are the plugs wet after cranking a couple of times?if theres fuel it should fire at least a bit with fresh fuel...
