RE:NC29RRN - what spanner buy to adjust the Std Rear Shock?

Post by marty400 » Sat May 22, 2010 11:35 pm

Hiya All,

hope you can help.

What make/model C- Spanner should I buy, that will adjust the Std rear shock?
(Ie to loosen the locknut, and also the preload adjusting locknut?)

I'm trying to adjust the standard rear shock on my NC29 - but the C-Spanner in the toolkit won't fit! I've given it a good go, to loosen the locknut, and also the preload adjusting locknut. I have also tried a cheapo "adjustable" C-spanner. All no good, the spanner is slipping off lots, and I don't fancy damaging fairings or framework etc!

The spanner in the NC20 toolkit looks exactly the same as the spanner for my old CBR600 - where the rear shock had those 6 settings. The NC29RRN is totally different, with the threaded locknut for finer tightening adjustments.

Hope you can advise
Cheers
Martin

:plus: But I use a ground down screwdriver (drift).

I've found it's nearly impossibly to adjust the preload while the shock is under load (especially if it's weathered a bit). An Abba stand/axle stands/jack makes it a breeze.

I'm happy to draw up a template from the one I have made at A4 size and email that to anyone who might want to make one themselves.

Use 4-5mm mild steel plate, a jigsaw and a file and it should take about 30 minutes.

et voila

Print out at A4 size and use 5mm mild steel and it should work nicely. I have used alloy plate, but the tip is too soft and it rounds off quickly. I've got the steel in the shed to have a go once my crash damaged hand isn't......
