RVF400 Keyless ignition

Post by kev_o » Sun Apr 11, 2010 7:36 am

Hi, I'm in the process of preparing a NC35 for purely track day's. I've been doing a bunch of work on the bike and was wondering if anyone can give some assistance on removing the key ignition set up. Is it possible to wire the ignition in to the kill switch and if so does anything need to be added. I'm not much on electrics so any guideance will be great. Cheers, Kev

Mate to be fair is quite easy,I had on my 125 track bike a switch from ebay for silly money, you just need to check with a multimeter when you turn the key what wires have 12 v in them.Get them 2 bastards put them through the switch and job done.(Oh I meant when you turn the key check which one has goes to life, their is usually one that has 12 v everytime and one that has power only with the key turned)

Hey there kev_o. Mine is currently setup as a keyless ignition. It's running a flip switch in the place of the ignition barrel with the combination of the original starter to start the bike. It's a nice setup. When you mean you want to make your RVF400 purely for track days, I assume you mean running it without the kick stand correct? If that's the case, you're also going to have to modify the kick stand sensor. You can turn on the bike with the kick stand down, but as soon as you get it in gear, it will shut off. Which setup will you be doing?

Use a headlight relay with a kill switch on the clutch side.
Your 2 heavy ignition wires plugged into the relay.
Run a 12v feed to the relay,to switch on the ignition, and ground it with the kill switch.
Looks trick and works great.
