Oil Leak

Post by David »

After a great ride out on the Hastings May Day run I noticed a patch of oil under the bike on the floor
I cleaned the underside and after some investigation found where it is coming from.

If you see the area marked with the red circle - the metal rod that operates the clutch - oil is coming out from round here when I start the bike

Is there a seal that I can replace here or is something else gone wrong?

Having trouble finding a Clutch Push Rod Seal for the NC24.
Or can I use another model

I found this on the Wemoto Web Site for the NC30 - would this work?

http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/Honda/VFR_4 ... d_Oil_Seal

OR

Can get part nos from link below and get direct from Honda - just which part is normally the culprit?
16,17,18 or 19

No replies, HELP!!!, bike sitting there feeling sorry for itself.

Trying to find info for the NC24 on this area but not having a lot of luck
I have been reading about other bikes and there is the oil seal around the push rod then a slave seal beyond that and where there is clutch fluid.

Being a novice(obviously) I don't quite understand this section - I know this bike has a wet clutch system, should I check some other fluid level.

When I start the bike and increase the revs a bit the fluid leaks from here but it is either very clear oil or something else - is there clutch/brake fluid in there too, so it must be an inner seal if so.

The seal I have marked on the pic - there appears to be a slight space round the edge of the push rod - should this be a very tight fit?

If no one here knows - hook the seal out, wipe it down, and you will probably find a spec number on it. Go to your local bearing supplier and see if they know what it means, or can sell you a new one based on the pattern.

It's a seal - it should definitely keep the oil in!

The other idea - one lad had a leak from the coolant pipes above the engine that ran down the block and looked like it came from somewhere else. Have you eliminated that already?

I did clean the area up and watched carefully for the leak and it did come out from around the push rod
but I'll have another look just to double check

I'll pull the seal out tonight to see if I can get a no from it.

Thanks

i take it you have already tried david silver honda spares or going into a honda dealer :?: it may be a generic part that was used in several honda models of that era possibly, worth phoning david silvers if you havn't done so yet and they could confirm wether 24 and 30 part is same . i got a 30 one from them a while back after fiitting a wemoto one that was a poor fit on the outer side would get a genuine honda seal if possible.
