Well the Tyga kit I ordered has arrived. The panels are a little thinner than I was expecting but I'm sure they'll be solid enough when fitted. However the paintwork is amazing. Very impressed. I'll be having a go at drilling holes and fitting in a couple of weeks, when I've gathered together all the grommets and whatnots required.

Good day Gents,

Any updates on this? Recieved my set last week. It does look great, paint on mine is awesome but feel the clear coat could be a little thicker to make it more durable so sent it straight to a painter. I supposed if the fairings are used as intended for track purposes weight is everything. Mounting of the front indicators seem simple enough so not too worried about this, just a couple of holes really, one for indicator and a smaller one for the wire. Would love to see everyone's bikes with em on. Really look forward to losing the pillion seat myself, should look great.

Cheers,
Rudolf

The Tyga tail section was a bit of a fiddle. Took two of us to gently 'manoeuvre' it (ie.bend it) so that the last bolt could be lined up and fitted. With the original tail section the hole under the pillion seat, when it's removed, allows you to see what you're doing underneath, as you connect brake lights etc. You can't do this on the one-piece Tyga kit. You do it by feel, with the sharp edge of the plastic cutting into your wrist. Also you have to push down to engage the 2 vertical lugs and you have to hope you've lined them up properly (you can't see if they're in the right place), otherwise you could hear an expensive cracking sound. I found a dab of grease helps here.
The belly pan section was more straight-forward, but again much easier if you have a friend, just don't tighten any of the bolts until everything is in place. Incidently, I lined it with heat-reflecting material (bought on-line).
That's as far as I got, other than to fit the 4 metal clips which locate the bolts for the top/headlight section. These are a very tight fit and it's a bit daunting to know they're going to scrape across the pristine paintwork. You just have to grit your teeth, line each one up with the hole in the fairing and press down sharply. Any damage will be hidden when the top section covers it but it still doesn't feel right. A dollop of grease on the clip helped.
I'm going to temporarily fit the top section tonight so I can mark out where the indicator holes should be (over masking tape) and make sure they're pointing straight. Haven't decided whether to drill the holes with that section in place or take it off first. I don't think this is quite as straight-forward as Spacey reckons. The rubber grommet (or whatever it's called) to which the indicator fits (on the outside of the fairing) has a specific shape which requires 3 holes to make it sit snugly. You could mutilate it with a sharp blade but it's that shape, with it's little protrusion, to stop the indicator rotating when you hit those potholes. I practised drawing round the 'grommet' onto a piece of plastic, marking where the 3 holes should be, and drilling with a narrow drill bit, using a Dremell. I gradually widened each hole until the rubber fitted. It took 3 attempts before I got it straight. Hopefully it'll be ready for this weekend. There's a VJMC bike show at the Barn Owl pub, in Lymm, Cheshire which I'd like to get to..that's providing the Powerbronze screen I ordered yesterday arrives on time!

Good write up Foxy.
I'm going to wait until October till I fit mine, I just haven't got th e time at the moment.
Also I've got the Ecliptech plug and play headlamp conversion kit to 60w so that will get done the same time.
Love the Tyga exhaust, by the way, runs great, significant improvement.

Fitting the top headlight section was very tricky. Trying to get the 3 bolt holes on either side lined up and the 1 above the headlights, as well as making sure the holes in the 2 'wings' could be slipped over the screen brace (where the mirrors fit) was a bit of a 'mare. And trying to do this without marking the paintwork made it nerve-wracking. I covered the edges of the wings with masking tape because they kept scraping against the screen brace. It's currently partially secured but firm enough so I could sort the holes for the indicators.

I covered the area with a couple of layers of masking tape then took measurements from the original fairing to work out the indicator position. There was a bit of guesswork involved but I reckon it's just about spot-on. The bike is on the Abba stand so I needed to make sure the indicators pointed fractionally downwards, so they'd be level without the stand.
I drew round the grommet thing, marked the 3 holes and with the Dremel on medium speed drilled through the plastic. Using the Dremel gouging tool I made the holes wider, checking regularly, until the grommet fitted securely. Easier than expected.
I should have fitted the headlights before getting to this point, then I could easily have bolted on the indicators, connected everything up and Bob would be my uncle. But as I'd expected to remove the fairing to do the drilling I hadn't bothered.
Now I've got the hassle of taking it off, then refitting it with the lights in place.

I didn't make it to the Barn Owl. Still waiting for the screen.

I guess I was so wrapped up in the fitting (and un-fitting) that I didn't think to take pics. Very remiss of me and I apologise for that.

Argh that's a shame, know the feeling though. Used to document all my little projects in the past but lately also getting too old and caught up in the task at hand I completely forget. I will probably setup the gopro though when I get to fitting mine, just for memory sake. My kit is still lying at the painter unfortunately, too cold to spray so have to be patient.

I'm going to be interested to hear how you get on with the fitting. As this was taking longer than expected I had time to order genuine bolts&grommets from David Silver. Thought I may as well do this properly and they look better than those I was using. They arrived today, along with the Powerbronze screen. Hopefully a final fitting will commence soon.

Having a problem with posting in this section, so just testing.

Seems to be ok.
