Just Brilliant!
I want to do one of these for my Yamaha, so you will probably get lots of pesky PM's from me when the time comes.

Re: Benny's Carbon Tank Cover
No problem mate I will help all I can.
Get on the talkcomposites forum as people on there are very knowledgeable and always willing to help you,
Ive asked the stupidest of questions and had people explain exactly what I'm trying to do plus more.
You will make the same mistakes that ive made, everyone does.
I'd say a tank cover is very difficult as a starting piece and still at the limit of what ive done,
Start small or make something you cannot see, airbox lid etc and then move on from there.
Perhaps make a battery box as this would be small but intricate enough to give you problems and you can use it if a bit tatty.

Yes, it will be baby steps. What are you using to align your mould sections?

Re: Benny's Carbon Tank Cover
The mould is held together with 6mm pins bolted through at 40mm intervals,
You aline the pieces by moulding location lugs into the joint flanges, its very easy to do with some filleting wax but one of the things you always forget to add.
I'm sure Paul has shown it on the split mould video, you can watch it on the easycomposites website or search youtube.

Tank cover and bike go back to benny on Sunday.
Cover is now wearing a nice shinny coat of clear 2k paint.

Cheers.
Ive actually got a couple of other things to make, guy wants a bongo type drum making and I've been asked to make a plinth for a very expensive hifi turntable so should be interesting.
