VFR/RVF were do you shift?

Just wondering were people change gear when their going 100%, be that on track or road as im not sure where i personally should be changing gear.

Personally on the road i usually change gear at about 11-12k if im going for it and 9-10 if im not fully comitted but on track i was reving the thing to about 13k before changing up, is this too high? and will it be harming the engine?

On a straight I'll be looking for 13k and then clutchless shifting into the next gears.

Depends if I need the over rev in corners or not..but I am also scared of my engine dying too so I'll try my damndest not to hit the limiter...whch I also have reduced on the CDI to 14k to help with this paranoia

it will come to you man - you ride your bike and when you start racing you'll be pinging it around everywhere..you'll surely be concentrating on other stuff at the time

get the bike on a Dyno this will tell you where you make your peak power at the top of the rev range and just after that point is where its optimum gear chaning time...

if i'm in top gear down a long strait i will look at the revs,other than that it's all about ears and
feel,listen to the motor sing,feel it through the handle bars,you will soon learn when to change gear,then the rest of them can

Town Riding I rarely get the revs up over 6'000rpm, maybe only in 1st gear. I basically do this to keep my fuel usage down and keep a bit more money in my pocket lol.

As for 'Out of Town' riding, I normally shift around 12-13'000rpm unless Im riding with my mates on there GSX-Rs in which case it will be 15'200rpm (ish) in an effort to stay with them. LOL

I can see that prolonged high revs can cause damage to the engine, but that doesnt mean you shouldnt be scared of hitting the top of the rev band as such. Unless its HRC Ignition-ed or aftermarket set-up then it will have a rev limit which is the point you should start worrying, not before. Obviously though, with peak RPM not bieng point of Peak Power, it isnt necassarily the best point to shift.

When really going for it on the road I usually shift up when it feels right, like 12k if im coming up to a corner and use the mid-range a bit. nut usually in the twisties im shifting at about 10-11k. I'd imagine this would be slightly different for the track.
