nc30 - fireblade pics

Post by pugparcels » Wed Apr 08, 2009 9:07 pm

just thought you may like to see the progress of my nc30 fireblade lovechild. As some may have read i bought a nc30 for £200 down the pub that had been stood for four years in the elements after lots of work getting her running i fancied something different to all of the jap4 & k-conversions kits. so i thought i'd make my own. i have modified the rear subframe, to take the 600rr rear end, made small adjustments to the front end ( i have only quickly cable tied the front fairing on just to take the photos, hence its not perfect )

i know this is not to everyones taste as most like the nc30 as it originally looked but with a blank canvas as all the panels were beyond repair i fancied trying something different.

I like it.

You're right in saying that it won't be to everyone's taste, but I personally prefer seeing some hard work and ingenuity rather than simply bolt on aftermarket kits.

I'm sure it will give you heaps more satisfaction when it's finished!

There are some nc29's in the cbr section with full 600rr bodykits which look fantastic.

thanks for the vote of confidence, it will look loads better when finished. everything takes 10 times as long when your working with no instructions!

i have decided for a single seater so if the wife wants to go out then we will use the blade, i have had what i think is an ingenious thought with the original seat lock, i have moved the mechanism to the front of the subframe and have made some slight alterations so it can still be used and the bike will have some storage, again everything is very rough and just basic bolts hold things in place and some things not fixed properly at all yet but its just to get my ideas in to practice

I like it thumbs up!

Think the front fairing gives a great mean stance/appearance - are you thinking of going for an underseat exhaust as well? We don't see many of those on the NC.

nope, im keeping the standard side exhaust, i am trying to get a high rear end look same as the jap4 type kits, but i will be replacing it with a tri oval laser hotcam dual tone can, i had it on my fireblade when i got knocked off last year. The can only got slightly scuffed on the edge but it fits the opposite side to the nc' so any slight damage wont be seen.

Well i hope it will fit the can is a 60mm slip on, measuring the standard pipe on the bike looks to be the same, hope so cos it was loud on the blade but on a v4 engine should sound even better!

Looks stunning mate! did it take much hacking around to get parts to line up properly?

the rear subframe was a bit of a pig, as you look side on to the subframe the lower bars going up at an angle were completely cut away from the bars above. The top bars were shortened by about 3/4 inches. to give an idea the seat mount / lock at the rear of the subframe was completely removed.

once the rear cowl was roughly in position the lower supports were moved up to work out the angle required then cut and re-welded. the 'undertray' is one complete sheet of aluminmum from a sign we have taken down at work. i have left a gap to add a number plate light and bracket for the number plate. it looks a bit open at the mo around the battery area but i have the black infil panels from the 600 to go on here and they work well to hide the battery, starer relay etc.

the front end was roughly done last night, i am still using the original headlight mount but have cut away the circular mounts for the original headlights. I will try to photograph with a side panel on tonight and with the rider seat & the pillion hard cover.

the hardest part i think is going to be working around the two front rads due to the width but i should get away with it, i had the 600rr air ducts coem with the top fairing for i am wondering if i can modify them to redirect cool air to the rads.

ok i have very quickly cable tied the side fairing, the side infils placed the pillion seat cowl & prototype riders seat, this will be when finished a combination of the 600rr & nc30 foam to get a good fit and look. the pictures are not brilliant as i did this in fading light about 20mins ago but hopefully you will get the idea.

iv still got to add a front mudguard & screen which will give the bike a far better look. i have not worked out how i will modifiy the fairing for the choke operation as yet but there ar eways and means!

ok looking at this a bit more indepth today, though 600rr fairings will fit the bike, the connection between the two fairings at the bottom causes them to foul the exhaust by the rear wheel, so anyone thinking ooh! this looks a good idea becareful.

I am thinking adding a spacer between the fairings on the under side to give them a bit of extra width, this should also help with the rad issues at the front as well. Once i have found ways around some of these problems i will post the pictures.

The side fairings are only cheap race fairings i used to use so original honda ones will be bought ( ebay i guess ) and used as they are obviously far better

will keep you informed!
