Hey Bowches, you've returned! So both your bikes are off the road? Is that a winter lay-up or are they broken? If it's because you think it's too cold then you're missing out on some cracking winter days, with clear blue skies and reasonably dry roads. Just wear another layer or two and clean the bike when you get home. I've been out on the NC29 twice in the last 5 days and they've been very enjoyable rides. Get your thermals on and get out there!

Hi Foxy and everyone on 400greybike,

Yea both my bikes are off the road at the moment and I am going around in my car (Diesel civic 2007). I just got the zxr 400 ULEZ tested on the 9th of December 2021 and it passed!

The CBR 400 i caused a bit of a problem to it. (Its to do with the battery, I dont want to get into it too much). The starter relay makes a single click sound when I press the start button. I will get that sorted out soon and get the bikes road worthy soon.

The ZXR 400 has been great so far and it has never let me down. Starts up first time almost every time! Unlike the CBR 400 :( which if you leave it for over 2 weeks idle, it takes a few attempts to start up and possible a flat battery.

I miss being on the bike for sure! Driving a car is nice, comfortable and warm, plus you can listen to music, but I am starting to feel the need to be on a bike again more often. I've not been on a proper ride for like 3 months! Apart from the ULEZ emission testing appointment in east london

Interesting that you say your NC29 has problems starting if it's been left for a couple of weeks. At this time of year, when it's cold, batteries sometimes struggle a bit, especially if it's getting on a bit. I've heard people say that after 5 years a battery is well past it's best. I'm assuming you hook it up to a battery-tender, such as an Optimate? If you don't then you need to get one asap. I think it's an essential bit of kit. Each of my bikes is connected to an Optimate when not on the road and invariably start first time (well, almost).
I'm sure someone on here can help with the starter relay probs. I had that a couple of years ago after the bike ran out of petrol but I can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it..GF explained something about using a spare piece of cable to connect something to something else..yeah, really useless  but someone will know. Good luck and don't be a stranger ;)

The Hornet is the same, a bitch to start if she's standing more than a week or so. I'm tempted to fit a pre-heater in the air box that can run off the Optimate.

The EXUP has been off the road since August 2014........

2013? 2014? What's up with you chaps? I start getting withdrawal symptoms if it's been more than 2 weeks since I've had one of the bikes out, which is why I can't bear to SORN them over the winter. And we all know these bikes need to be used and the heap of problems that can arise if they're just left.

Last MOT was June 2017, the 400 was summer the year before but I do have a damn good excuse.
This is the year they both get MOT’d and ridden but i unfortunately did say that last year so fingers crossed 🤞
