Suipporting the front of an NC35

Post by electronf » Wed Jan 27, 2021 1:31 am

Hi,

I have searched 15 ways to sundown but I cannot for the life of me find an answer to this question.

I have an NC35 with a pin type under the toke front stand and a normal single sided wingarm rear paddock stand.

If I want to remove the rear hub I could support the bike via stands under the pegs No problems there.

If, however, I want to remove the steering stem and bottom triple clamp obviously I will need to support the bike without using the front stand. Friends and fellow riders of other bikes have said just support it with s jack or the like under the sump. But I cant see any way to support it from underneath without removing the exhaust.

Does anyone have some sort of antigravity or levitation device I can borrow?

I'm surprised no-one has come back to you with an answer. I've never had to do the job you're talking about but I reckon you have two choices. As you say, the exhaust needs to come off to get a jack under the sump. However if you happen to be working in a garage with reasonably strong cross beams, you can suspend the front end from there. Remove the tank and use straps (or rope) under the frame rails. I've seen it done. If you've not got a handy cross beam then it looks like the exhaust-off method is your only choice.

Make a wooden block to go around the exhaust

Same advice will extend to the NC30, they're not that much different :)

pack the gap between exhaust and sump - and then support on the front pipes - they are plenty sturdy

Abba stand and front lift arm. You can pick them up on eBay second hand and then buy the fitting kit new if this cannot be found on the above auction site. Picked my last one up for not much money.
No more worries about damaging the exhausts anymore

Good shout. I never even thought about an ABBA stand.
