Buying NC30 33bhp Restrictor kit

hey everyone, im new to the forum... got myself a 1990 vfr 400 NC30... i was hoping that rather than spend a $$$$ on the restriction washers somone would have a set they had no use for / had finished with, so i can fit them and chuck it on a dyno.. you can ring me on 07834 811968 or just post somthing...

Welcome! If you have q sneak search using the top right option you will find some pics and some dimensions I am sure.

Sometimes a dodgy question on here as the suckers that paid FI £200 for them want to make some money back for some worthless pieces of metal.

Keeping within your licence and insurance rules is a good call though so kudos for that. 2yrs is up soon enough and with the corner speed you will learn from the restriction getting full beans will make you appreciate how good a NC can be.

I think all new riders should have some form of lower power probation...no need for the wannabe crew to hit full power straight away....something for another topic I guess..lol

if you PM me your emil address. i have compiled a collection of pics of the restrictor washers, but i don't have the dimensions (for the VFR anyway), no one has been brave enough to do that just yet!!

If no one can supply the correct dimensions, then if declangaelic has clear enough shots of them it could be easily calculated.

Remeber the law only states that it must not produce more than 33bhp. Its not your job to prove it is 33bhp or under, if your machine comes into question. Its the laws job to show evidence that the machine is producing more than 33bhp. However H and R insurance will demand a document of restriction, if your not insured with them then Id save the money from the Dyno for something else.

As I see it, they will only really know its producing more than 33bhp if:

1) There is a serious accident that warrants full forensic investigation, so the bike is found to be unrestricted. In this case you are likely to be killed or seriously injured where you will never need a license again, so its not really going to be an issue any more for you.

2) You get caught exceeding a speed limit. Most 33bhp machines will struggle to get over 100-110mph so if your doing this it will raise an eyebrow. Still, being caught at that speed in your 2 year probationary procedure is likely to result in the end of your license be it 33bhp or not.

Still, if you can get some cheap and easily enough then its no harm, but actually as CMSMJ1 says, beneficial for when you are full power as you should have learnt the art of cornering to keep up speed. I agree that there should be a probationary period, but I dont agree with how its regulated but hey it doesnt matter to me anymore, for one I got fed up of forking out the cash to Fi international.

im on 33bhp at the moment and am 5 months into my sentace, i would agree it has helped smooth the progression onto a bigger bike (i went for geared 50 to restricted 400) but iv got bored of the bike now (no in twisties) just winding it on and waiting for 12k takes too long for me, so i think the next time i strip the bike the restrictors will come out

definetly advice to restrict it first tho, its by no means slow restricted either, mine hit 115 and will sit at 100 all day long and the bike still corners really well, i used to keep up with mates on full power sv's and 600 restricted but now i want to get used to the bike full power so im used to it for track days and racing next summer

also f1 internation wanted another £25 for changing the name on the restrictor certificate when i bought the bike, acording to them their kits are not legal if the certificates are not in your name which is bollocks

hey everyone and cheers for your advise, im def guna keep it restricted, i have friends who run restricted bikes so it shudnt bother me to much.. yea im rele not up for paying £200 to have it restricted if i can get around it, id rather splash out on a rs shock or somthing like most of you guys prolly would.

Hi guys and girls,
Just wondering since people are on the subject, my 2 year sentance is done next June, so when i tell my insurance company that my bike is full power, which it is now :oops: :P, can i expect my insurance to go up. if so shud i just wait till next september when my renewal will be due and tell them then.

No you dont need to tell them its full power. That is assumed if your licence is over 2 years. You should expect a decrease if you havent crashed etc and have 1 extra NCB. You may actually get a discount if you keep the bike restricted, even though you can ride over 33bhp.
