Suspension mods - Easiest, cheapest, most effective...

Post by Minimoto » Wed Jun 07, 2017 9:42 pm

Hi all. I have an NC35 with stock suspension front and rear. As I get the bike back onto the road after many years laid up I'd be interested to know what are the simplest most effective mods I can make to the suspension?

The bike will be used only on the road. I weigh 85kg in my birthday suit. I've read through a few threads and there seems to be endless options. I don't want to go as far as replacing the front end with Triumph forks but would consider swapping out the rear unit, but I've know idea what would be a good option to replace it with...?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers,

Dave

Fitted a shock from an S1000RR anyone? How's it been?

How about a CBR shock...any thoughts?

What about a custom Ohlins or Wilbers?

How about up front...?

Thanks for any views/advice...

What are you trying to achieve, what are the current deficiencies.

Hi Magg. My RVF suspension is totally stock from new - 94. The bike has been stood for 9-10 years and I'm now getting back on the road. I don't think the fork oil has even been changed. Not since I got the bike in 99 anyway!

It looks like a lot of guys out there make improvements to the suspension in various ways and I'm lost with it all at the moment...

I'm not looking to do any track days but will look for a good road setup, to start with anyway. Assuming changing out the standard shock is a good first move, I'd be interested to know what a good alternative would be. Either designed for the RVF or from another bike. I'd also like to know more about anything I have to do with linkages for each option.

Any advice on either shocks or forks would be much appreciated :-)

Agree a fork oil change would be a good place to start. A fork spring change might be necessary depending on the sag measurements. The shock could be replaced for something better or rebuilt depending on your preference, not sure if the NC35 shock can be rebuilt. I have a Nitron shock on my NC30.
