Daytona 675 Forks on NC35

Post by Sharpedge » Tue Mar 07, 2017 7:34 am

I plan to purchase a pair of 2006-2008 Daytona 675 forks to fit onto my NC35.

I found an old thread: viewtopic.php?f=22&t=46409 where a discussion on this matter took place. A user in the thread, James66, seemed to know exactly what to do but he disappeared in 2014 without elaborating.

He did mention that i should have the NC35 yokes, the original NC35 rims and floating discs, and the triumph wheel spindles.

But what if i plan to order a pair of new rims from Dymag anyway? Should i just get them to make me a front rim to the 675's specs, along with 308mm floating discs like the 675?

Also, what brake calipers are compatible with the 675 forks?

James66 was kicked off the forum for scamming people.

With regard to your queries:

"But what if i plan to order a pair of new rims from Dymag anyway? Should i just get them to make me a front rim to the 675's specs, along with 308mm floating discs like the 675? "

Yes you could do this but the standard 675 spacers wont work so you would need to get them to make custom spacers for you. Also would the brake disc spacing work with the nc35 yokes? I dont know

"Also, what brake calipers are compatible with the 675 forks?"

I believe the blue spot calipers from an R6 work but in theory i think most 108mm calipers would work with the correct spacers

Im sorry to hear that about James66.

I think youre right to cast doubt about whether or not my ambitious idea would work. I was just trying to see if i could get larger brake discs on my NC35.

On the Tyga website, i saw a triple clamp for CBR600RR fork conversion to fit on an NC35. What are the advantages of using the CBR600RR forks over the Daytona 675?

I have some sets of nc30/35 discs I got converted to 310mm rotors like the RC30. Then you won't have the caliper overhang and just need some spacers for the calipers made up. Pm me if you are interested. I've a set of street triple R forks too which I believe are the same as the 675 Daytona but just black instead of gold

Afraid I don't know about the cbr600rr conversion, but at least with the 675 you don't need new yokes

Its worth noting that if you go for a 675 wheel they are about the lightest OEM wheels you can get and theres not a lot to be saved over going for a mag wheel

Don't rush to fit mega oversized discs, the weight saved on the wheel gets eaten up on the larger disc that is over kill on the 400 anyhow.
Ive seen the zx front end fitted that uses the smaller discs so giving a considerable weight saving.

If you go full hog with super trick everything and need one-off yokes and spacers then take a look at jj machine works they make super trick yokes for the right money, no friend of mine or anything but ive seen their yokes and spat my dummy.

Thats a good point on the oversized discs there chris, well serviced stock discs and nissin HH pads on a NC is almost overkill anyway. When i ran the 675 front end with NC discs and 675 calipers still overhanging the disc by 2mm the braking was epic but way overkill for the ickle 400.

I had a private conversation with Yakama where he shared more information about disc conversion etc..

Whether or not bigger discs will affect the handling too much because of the added weight VS the added braking power... I will never be able to find out.

Because i just realised my country has strict regulations about certain modifications and changing the brake disc size is one of them. There is an annual inspection for every single motorcycle, car and whatever vehicles are out there and i will never be able to pass the inspection with larger brake discs... Stupid right..

Anyway i am now considering between the 675 forks and the CBR600RR forks.

The staff from Tyga were very kind to email me alot of information about early and late CBR600RR forks. Of course, this would be the more expensive choice because i would have to purchase a new triple clamp, and new 48mm handlebars. I could use the NC35 stock 50mm handle bars but i'd probably have to use some kind of shim.

Also, the CBR600RR fork legs are (or were) designed for 108mm calipers so if im forced to retain 296mm brake discs i would have to deal with some overhang.

Does anyone know what calipers go on the 2006-2008 675 forks? Is it also 108mm?

I cant remember the bolt spacing but whats wrong with using stock 675 calipers? As for the overhang issue the easiest option is to machine the calipers to fit, that way you keep the NC wheel and discs.

Ive never been keen on the 600RR conversion as IMO the mudguard just doesnt suit the bike, i think the 675 one suits it better albeit i did chop it slightly.....
