Random exhaust system on my NC30

Post by bodge » Tue Apr 30, 2013 5:11 am

First post here

Ive just brought a NC30. Its a proper nail that ive brought for track days and for a bit of road use.

The exhaust system might need replacing as its very rusty. So I thought ill get a replacement on ebay no problem.

Ive had a look at mine and its compleatly different to all the other NC30 exhausts ive seen and pics i can find on google. I first started to look closer when I was having a look round at my new toy. Saw how rusty it was and then saw how the exhaust touch's the fairing. At first I thought the fairing was in the wrong place or there was bent brackets but it all lines up where it should

What do you think? Whats it off and where did it come from lol

And where do I get a replacement for it if i need one

Difficult to tell what type from just that one side. Any chance you can get a pic of the other side (before the muffler)?

Does it use springs to mount each section or fully welded?

Its mostly welded. I can get a pic at the weekend. Working away atm.

Where it isn't welded its one over the other with exhaust clamps like a car. There might be a spring clip section hidden deep under the fairing.

The backbox is a scqorpian (sorry poor spelling and even the spell checker can't help me lol)

It looks standard to me.

Exspecailly if it has clamps where the front pipes meet the middle (most aftermarket pipes dont use clamps, either nothing or springs)

Theres a few reasons it could be touching the faring.

1. The lower faring bracket is bent causing a bent fairing.
2. Especially common with crasehd stock stystems as they are very heavy, that the subframe is bent and shoving the exhaust into the faiirng.

After I crashed mine I had to replace a bent subgframe and bend exhast.

Couldn't be a more different shape and follow a different path to 80% of the nc30s on google. Im not saying your wrong ive only just brought a nc30 but i canny find another like this one as it might need replacing

I'm sure it's not standard, the downpipes are too close together, and stand ones are practically vertical. These point towards the front of the bike.

Thanks for all your help. What ive worked out from what everyones said and then having a deeper mooch around the site is that its not standard and im pretty wounded about getting any replacement sections as it could be one of many. I didn't think there would have been so many systems made for this bike.

Hopfully i can clean it up and maybe weld in some new sections but looks like i might have to pay out for another system :(.

I looked at 2nd hand parts for this bike before buying it and everythink seemed dirt cheep. Didn't even think about exhaust. They seem to go for mega money

I wouldn't worry about spare parts, aftermarket systems are usually of very good quality and rarely completely rot through so unless you can actually see any holes or cracks then I doubt there's a problem, get some more pics up when you can.
