So i have put my bike back together and there is a gap between the right hand spacer and the fork leg.

I cant remember if this was the case when i took the wheel out, logic says there should be no gap.

The wheel is brand new so should be no issue.

Maybe i have the wheel spacers the wrong way round but as i have it the large spacer is in the left side (as looking from the front) and the small in the right side.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did you tried it then..changing the spacers the otherway around?

With the spacers the other way round the wheel doesn't sit in the center of the wheel.

The wheel is solid if out try and move it by hand for side to side with everything torqued up

Did you tighten left side fork leg clamp bolts first, [incorrect] rather than the right side [correct]
The spindle nut clamps both spacers and right fork in position, but the left fork can move to allow the legs to line up.
Slacken the left side bolts and align the groove on the end of the spindle to sit flush with edge of the fork bottom.
I usually leave the clamp loose and push up and down on the bike to settle/align the legs, on VFR or RVF.

When you say the wheel is brand new, does this mean it's the first time it has been on the bike? If so, do you have the old one and what happens if you put it back on? Also, we've probably all done the forwards means forwards thing.... does the arrow on this wheel as fitted right now point forward when it's at the top, not at the bottom?

If it's new and the first time fitting, and it's the right way around, if the spacers are on the right sides, I'd be asking questions about what it was supposed to fit. The disc looks to fit snugly between the pads from what can be seen in the pic (have you tried rotating it to see if it's binding or not?), so unless you have the wheel or the spacers the wrong way around, it would seem that removing that gap would cause significant issues with the brakes unless perhaps the pads have shifted over to accommodate the misalignment.

I'm pretty sure that the fatter spacer goes on the left (as you are looking at it) so if you do have the spacers and the wheel the right way around, looking at what you have there, if it's a brand new, previously unfitted wheel, I'd be suspecting that as the culprit....

So just been and had a play;

taking arsey30's advice i tightened the axle bolt up with all pinch bolts undone and it was pulling the axle through the right hand fork as you look at it, so the gap was because the small spacer was sat up the larger diameter that had been pulled through the fork.

So the gap should now have been taken up by the left hand fork moving in ( kind of makes you think it most now have a slight bend in it to take up that much gap, but hey maybe they natural spring out when not under load)

will see how she feels rolling of the stand tomorrow

There is some play in the forks when the axle isn't in, so you never know. It just looked like a hell of a lot to me!
