Fitting new ignition barrel to top yoke.. help

Post by makz2008 » Thu Mar 14, 2013 9:06 pm

Since the theif them damaged the top yoke and ignition barrel on my 30, i got a replacement set off edg-65 on here

i went about trying to fit them today, so i got the old yoke off, and the bolt heads for the bolts/screws which hold the ignition barrel in seem to be mullered, perhaps to prevent it being taken off i guess. So what type of bolt/screw would i need to fit the new one, seeing as i can't take the old screw/bolt to measure against or show some1 in a hardware store/autofactors. so does anyone have any lying about or know of where i can get em from? or is it a case of ordering them from a dealer? and would i need to muller the heads off once fitted so that it wont be removable?

lot of questions sorry

I don't know the exact size as my tools are down in the garage but they are a torx head bolt (like a star shape) and deffo not a use once only bolt...Ive had mine on/off several times.

You might still be able to hammer the torx bit in there to get them out.

I seem to recall honda also used threadlock on these fasteners but I might be dreaming it.

They don't look too bad to me. As has been said the right Torx bit should fit nicely but I do remember them being well torqued up (Feckin tight). I put the top yolk in a vice and applied steadily increasing pressure with the rachet (swor a bit) and it suddenly cracked free and was fine.

Remember these probobly havn't moved since Honda put it together all those years ago ;)

Ok. Been there and struggled they are loctited in and if they are mullered don't struggle. Drill heads off remove ignition however as its knackered then mole grips. I replaced mine with M8 hex bolts I think. If someone wants to nick the bike is it worth worrying about two bolts!!
