Rear sprocket NC30, 520 x 38t

Post by arsey30 » Fri Mar 08, 2013 3:35 pm

I have fitted a 17" mag rear wheel to an RC30 [same rear sprocket size/fitting as NC30.] and want to return the gearing to near standard.

I can't find alternate 525 width rear sprockets, so will go down to 520 race chain and sprockets. A 38t rear sprocket will be close enough, but I can only find alloy ones, does anyone know if steel are available,
520 x 38t

Thanks.

AFAM steel, 38T up to 42T in original 525 pitch :peace:
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Thanks for that.

Just remembered that NC35 has 38t to go with the 17" wheel to correct the gear ratio.

The JT is the closest I have seen, but the cutouts are different [triangular rather than oblong] but both 38 and 40 t [NC35, NC/RC30 ] are still available but expensive.
I think the original NC35 sprocket was black with a tin chain guard.

Was the original UK NC30 sprocket black or silver?
I have seen original Japanese NC30s with the black sprocket with a tin guard rivetted on, but not seen an original UK to check. [I know of an all original 600m bike, but unable to locate it at present]
The silver one is now listed for UK models
