Are NC35s becoming collectable?
or are people just having a laugh with prices? Probably the latter....
I was just having a squizz at stuff for sale, as you do, and the only one on MCN is up for £3750 (dealer). On eBay, anything with original panels or at least standard paint and not wearing some body kit of some description starts just shy of £3K, all the wya up to £5K!
My very tatty example with a mish-mash of different paint schemes on tatty eBay panels is currently insured for £2K. At some point in the not too distant future I'm determined to sort out the cosmetics. Regardless of my idea of going carbon or not, it will be stock shape. I know that adding x value of goodies doesn't add that value to the bike, however when it's clean and tidy, should I be thinking of upping the insured value? We all know insurers disregard it when offering a payout should you have a claim and offer silly low money, but with the way prices seem to be going I wonder if maybe I'd be undervaluing it when tidied up?

Overall prices are going up. Overhere prices are indeed going up (mind you only 64 NC35's are officially on Dutch titled registration which make them pretty special!) steadily every year. Yes, these are very collectable. Parts are difficult to get and best is to get the bikes close to genuine shapes with either genuine panels or upgraded to carbon/silhouette panels. Not with the chinese cheap or the K-converted panels.
Not joking, but in Italy there are 2 x NC35's for sale for......one RR in low milleage 4800 kms for an asthonishing 12.000 Euro (!)
and one RR for even more cash 14.000 Euro (!!) with in between 30-35K kms on the clocks!
Both RR's in bock standard trim!

Re: Are NC35s becoming collectable?
Its been a topic of conversation for a while this one and yes those bikes are way overpriced, the dealers know that too but they can afford to sit on them until some mug comes and stumps up the cash, which they will. Then the new owner will usually find their way here and soon discover that under all that dealer bullshit shine is just another tired old RVF that hasnt been serviced like the dealer told them it was.
Its the same with all bikes, dealers put a massive mark up on everything for nowt and they get away with it because most people have the impression that it must be a good bike as its from a dealer and comes with a warranty. Do they not realise its the same bike that the dealer gave a stupidly low price for no doubt telling the previous owner that it needed this and that in order to be road worthy, got some gobshite trainee mechanic to bullshit shine it then stuck in the showroom with some so called warranty in the hope the new owner doesnt discover anything wrong with it before the warranty runs out.
Rant over, sorry can you tell im not keen on dealerships, well its more so salesmen in general that get my back up but i guess they all fall into the same slimey bracket.

Re: Are NC35s becoming collectable?
It may be partly because they are becoming more collectable, but it's also a function of increased new bike prices. They've gone up a lot in recent years, meaning used bikes have either risen in value or not suffered much depreciation at worst.
A good example would be my R1. It cost 9K new in 2000 and I bought it for 2.5K in 2006, when 6 years old. You'd pay almost that for a 2000 model R1 in good nick now, seven years later. A new R1 now costs 12K.
A 2007 R1 cost 9.5K new (IIRC), but still sells for the best part of 5K, despite also being 6 years old (as mine was when I got it). I was kinda hoping that when I bought mine I'd be looking to upgrade to a newer one by now, but used prices are holding really well these days.

You thinking of getting carbon panels for your rvf? I was ready to buy them from tyga as i finally saved up enough cash but tyga aren't making them anymore. The said they MAY make them again in the future but there is no timetable for this. I just gather from that theyre discontinued as they even removed them from the website. I'm disappointed to say the least afyer all my saving and working hard on doing my rebuild... Oh wellspeedy231278 wrote:or are people just having a laugh with prices? Probably the latter....

yup, I had a shock at the NEC Motorbike Show - it seems to be about £9000 for a 600cc bike now! I remember when they were £6000!

Re: Are NC35s becoming collectable?
Prices of everything have gone up.
Mind you the yen has become a little weaker lately so that might mean things from Japan come down in price.
But generally the economy is bad so people are over-inflating the price of their second hand stuff trying to get maximum money for it.
Using places like fleabay, once one person does it then everyone else copies and the prices artifically rise.

Re: Are NC35s becoming collectable?
I remember there was a big hoo-ha in the mid 1990s when 900s almost hit £10K. Prices went down for a few years and have seemed to rise very modestly year on year, however when you hit certain figures people tend to notice. When petrol was going up a few pence a litre on a regular basis, no-one really batted an eyelid. When it got near a quid a litre, everyone suddenly noticed every penny. When it was over a quid, people went to not really being outraged once again. I bet if all bikes went past £10K, no-one would be so bothered if they went up again. It's the same reason you get stuff priced at £9.95 rather than £10, or a bike is £6999 rather than £7000. All in the mind.

A good stock titled RVF400 in the US, is about 9k USD and up. Not many here and being that they're so different than the other bikes imported, they are very collectible here.
