Indeed, unless your going for originality though, good excuse to upgrade to some larger brakes?

Having a full set made from 3/10 stainless steel, don't think it needs bigger brakes my other bike has standard calipers and pro lite discs brakes are great, better then the shitty 6 pots on my old TL1000r

My usual advice for people wishing to spend lots of money on bigger calipers is to overhaul their standard set, as with proper pads and good discs I find them really good.

However, if you need to buy new pistons as well as seals its often cheaper to get a good working set of later calipers and clean them up.

Later brakes are even better but by no means necessary.

All depends on cost, usually its cheaper to replace calipers than buy all new pistons, and you get an improved braking too.

Rick O, Wemoto, Paul Smeetons all carry replacment SS pistons.

Aroud 25 piston (with new seals)

So if you were to buy 8 pistos with seals your looking at 200 quid. You can easily get some late calipers and brakets for under that which are ready to bolt on.

Howver, since you said your having some made up I take it that its gonig to be much cheaper!

Yeah I use a local engineering shop for my pistons for the Gt750 brake pistons. All 10 pistons front and rear £107

That's a good price. I couldn't justify buying new pistons so fitted sp1 calipers and adapters instead (total of 70 quid).

It's the cost of the seals that's the killer. Genuine pistons are around the £25 mark each, but the seals add about half as much again. I was toying with the idea of rebuilding my SP1 calipers before fitting them as the pistons look like they could do with a little tlc, but the seal so n those things work out at about £70!!

Although technically not correct, the seals can be reused.
I have rebuilt dozens of calipers & succesfully reused the seals in all but a couple of them.

Infact the only piston/seals that I have known to leak have been when friends have rebuilt them badly & nicked the (new) seal on reassembly.

Like anything, you pays yer money & make your choice.

2nd that I restore gt750 brakes and have rarely seen seals leaking, simple deglaze them fit and regrease with red castor grease
