Cheap H4R Bulbs

is there ANYWHERE cheaper than David Silver/wemoto etc as 2 bulbs will end up costing me 40 squid ish posted!

I have already had h4's in and melted my switchgear so would like to just use the originals now, low beam seemed too bright anyway for daytime use.

Low beam too bright for daytime use? Keep the H4s and add a relay for the low beam.

The simple answer is that they'll cost the thick end of £20 a shot no matter where you get them from because the wattage and fitting are Japanese spec, and seemingly very uncommon if not unique to them. I don't think the 60/55s are too bright for daytime, it's more likely the beam pattern isn't quite right as you have to butcher the bases to fit them into the reflector assembly. A relay, some decent female spade connectors and a fuseholder will cost you about a tenner, and even if you don't use 60/55s you have the peace of mind that the switch is only handling enough current to keep the relay energised, rather than 70 watts of low beam circuit. I can't find the link to the headlamp adaptors that mean you don't need to butcher regular H4s to fit, but I think they were about a tenner as well.

We have members here who can machine/mill stuff or know/work with suppliers that can, maybe it's about time to produce some in the UK? Only sources seem to be USA and Hungary!

The link demonstrates an interesting way to mod H4 bulbs to fit H4R headlight shells. May be old news to some but thought it could be useful. Cheaper than adapter rings. Do not know if works as have not tried it but appears to be a popular solution.

I used to do this all the while before cheap lasercut adapter rings were avaibale.

The other easier option if you have a little time it to take the headlight out and use a dremel like multi-tool (or even a file / cutter if you have patience to cut the appropriate notches into the headlamp itself.

The rear of the headlamp is plastic so its easily cut on the nc30 to accomodate proper H4 bulbs, this saves having to use adapater rings or a nail.

My rings turned up on Saturday. Clearly there's a slight difference in the fitting across the Honda range as the tabs on the sides are a little on the loose side, and the tab at the top is a little too wide to fit. Nothing a few strokes with a file won't sort out.

Of course, one advantage of using the rings as opposed to simply cutting off the tabs is that the lamp will be held level, if very slightly further back in the reflector. Simply cutting off the tabs means the bottom of the lamp sits further forward, which probably explains why the H4R spec lamps seem brighter. Not sure what effect the mm or so further back the rings put the them will have. I guess the nail method probably holds the lamp level and also at the right distance from the reflector.

H4R seem brighter? There like candles in comparission to H4s!
