Uk and import cdi's
Has anyone ever compared the jap import cdi's with a uk one?
I have noticed they have a pin missing on the white plug. The loom is also missing a wire going to this pin. The jap one has this present on both loom and cdi.
Are they interchangeable? Does the uk one give anything extra/less? Could it be similar to the wire splice that is needed on an Nsr to derestrict it?
Cheers

I imagine it's the Japaneses 180 km/h speed restriction that's missing from the uk model cdi.
Yes, you can remove the top speed limiter very simply on the jap cdi's, some info here: http://www.400greybike.com/docs.htm

Re: Uk and import cdi's
hi i know that the uk model vfr has 9 wires. and the import has 10 wires. it has ten wires as there is a speed restricter in the speedo. as far as 'retro fitting' one goes, i wouldnt have a clue. but im sure some of the more electrcally minded chaps on here might have a fix.

I presume no body has ever cut or disconnected this wire then? Just to see if it removes te restriction? You have to do a similar think on the early nsr250 to remove the restrictor.

Not sure what you mean by that post. Many people have removed the speed limitwatfordhorn wrote:I presume no body has ever cut or disconnected this wire then? Just to see if it removes te restriction? You have to do a similar think on the early nsr250 to remove the restrictor.

You cant just cut it though. If it is open circuit the igition box will cut the ignition to the rear cylinders over 5500rpm so the bike cant achieve full power.
Theres a few ways to remove the speedo limit though.
1. cut the wire / disconnect it from the speedo sensor and fit a resistor / m-max box to fool the igition box into beliving the original speedo board is still connect (of course it will never trigger as it isnt acutally connected
2. you can mod the speedo (obv not great for a track bike) and put it all back together.
3. you can remove the speedo and keep the board attached
4. some people have mentioned splicing the wire to 12v directly (not tried this)
other than that i dont think the uk box does anything differently to the jdm version.
