When I first had my bike it had Bridgestone BT92's on it and got 20,000kms out of them on the road (approx), although the "feedback" from them wasn't the best and didn't bring out my confidence, I did use them on a trackday.
Then I got Bridgestone BT90's and they're brilliant - warm up quicker and grip better, although obviously they wear out quicker! They last me about a year, and I'm on my 2nd set just about worn out now. They are much better on trackdays and gives me a lot more confidence. Highly recommended. :)

Has anyone tried the bt016 against the bt090s? I know the profile for the 16s is going to be 150/70, but I would think that isn't such a big issue.

It'll look like a donut and probably work like one too, unless your getting them stupidly cheap i cant why you'd bother over a tyre designed for 400's rather than heavier 600's/1000's

One thing..or two

Tyre profile
120/60/17 - this is the standard, fully tested, works and has done for 20+ years profile.
120/70/17 - this is a non standard fitment for the bike. It works, lots of people use it. I'd still go for a 60 profile though.

150/60/18 - this is the profile you should use for the NC30
150/60/17 0 This is the profile you should use for the NC35

you can use a 160/60/17 on the NC35 - it is wider though and you might have chain interference issues. check it...and be prepared to buy a realigmnent kit from Rick Oliver.

150/70/18 - this is a fucking balloon. Stupid tyre to use and comes in crap compounds
160/60/18 - This is also a bloody big balloon. You can get tyres that come in that size..and they do fit...but see point 2..

Tyre speed rating

400 tyres are H rated. They are designed to work with a lighter, slower and less powerful bike. They warm up quicker and as such are going to work better

Most other tyres..they are Z rated. Especially the newer tyres and the ones in non standard sizes. They are designed to cope with 1000cc bikes and some of them with 1400cc tourers. The compounds and construction are stiffer. They may not quite get enough temperature to really get in their working range with only 55bhp and someone stupid enough to buy touring tyres skillset riding them.

Buy the right sizes, with the right speed rating (H is 130mph - I call smelly bollocks on any of you that reckons they can get 130+ out of a 400 for anything other than downhill and a good mile)

BT090 = awesome tyres but the rear can wear out if commuting.
BT092 = awesome tyres and will last longer on the rear.

Solution...have 2 rear wheels - one with an 090 on it and another with an 092. Will last you for ages or until you are teh ghey and "upgrade" to a 600

I understand from Graeme's post in the sales section that Pirelli have released the Rosso 2 in a H rating. Unfortunately they appear to be in 17" sizes only; be interested to hear what these are like though.
