CB1 w/CBR400RR Cam...hurt engine reliability?

Post by unclejemima » Wed Apr 11, 2012 5:45 pm

I've got a mint 89 Honda CB1 that I just acquired with only 3000 miles on it. Comes with the owners manual, tools and mini-fairing. Very low miles for such an old bike. It 9.8 out of 10 shape...

This bring me to the question of swapping a CBR400RR cam (nc23 triarm from what I've been told) to get some extra HP.

I've heard this is a in-expensive mod that is a direct drop in with just re-jetting required, but I'm worried that this just seems to easy...to good to be true if you know what I mean.

Will this mod hurt the longevity of my stock CB1 motor? Will I still be able to 100,000+miles like most with the CB1 are able to?

According to wiki, the CB1 had different port lengths and angles as well as smaller valves and lower compression ratio.

Would putting the CBR400RR cam with the smaller valves and lower compression cause any issues with using the RR cam?

Thanks!
