Adding sat nav to bike

hello everyone,

i would like to add a 12v socket to my bike for a sat nav, i plan to wire it directly to the battery with a fuse and run it along beside the loom cable to the clocks.
could someone advise me on whether or not this is going to put any strain on the reg/rec as i know they are a common fault as it broke on my first ride out leaving me to bloody push the thing home!
I have now put on a bigger reg/reg with cooling fins.

Thanks
Andy

i got cheap 'fag lighter' socket from hien gerick for about a tenner with a fuse, wired it up to the battery like you've said, put the fuse part near to the fuel switch tho because i blew a few of them and its a pain trying to change it if youve got to take shit apart..

besides the odd fuse ive had no problems, had my phone charging from it ect been on there for a while now no issues

hope this helps :D

Thanks for your reply
Cheers for the heads up on putting the fuse next to tap I'm sure to blow it sometime :P
Hopefully my socket will turn up in the post soon so I don't keep getting lost!
Thanks again
Andy

I have a CTEK (like optimate) lead on the battery of all my bikes and have made up a cable to plug into that and the satnav bracket. Easy to fit to whatever I decide to ride in about 5mins with some velcro. Simples.

Same here i have a ctek, you can buy the adaptors now too.
mine sits in the hole on the seat panel rhs.

I got the adaptor and use usb charger or sat nav etc.
