Heat Shield Removal

Hi Guys

So spent a while doing some more stuff on my bike today (new undertray, lovely uncut version and new, unscuffed indicators) and wanted also to replace the hideous rusty heat shield with a shiney new one I have...

Image

But couldn't work out how to take it off... Seems the screws are under the exhaust pipes... And I couldn't take off the heel guard and foot peg etc as at least one of the bolts has been threaded so needs drilling off :-(

Tried the Haynes manual and general internet but couldn't find anything that might help, so I'm hoping someone might be able to shed some light

one bolt at the top (out of shot there) behind the seat panel
remove footpeg hanger (two large bolts)
and from behind you will see how it attaches. its 2 small bolts, one you can see there going into the large hanger plate, the other is further up.
10 min job ;-)

Yes, easy job but fiddley.

two bolts (10mm head) bolt into the footrest hanger and the 3rd one is at the top, which you can see if you remove the seat cowl.

You can remove them with the footrest on (fiddley) by using a 10mm ring spanner.

If you want to do it the easy way.

Remove the top right hand heatshield bolt (will be hidden behind the seat cowl)

The unbolt the footpeg (two 8mm hex bolts) and the footpeg and heatshield will come away as one unit. Pay attention to brake hose clamps etc.

You should be able to angle the footpeg so you can see the two bolts into the footpeg and unscrew them.

Swap them and then put it all back together and job done.
