rear brake noise...help?

Post by caker » Thu Oct 27, 2011 7:54 pm

recently bought an nc29. ive been driving it around for 2 weeks now. a few days ago the rear brake started making a strange sound, sorta like a low groan, like something's rubbing somewhere. it's interrupted but sometimes constant when i use it, and sometimes not there at all.

I've taken a futile look at it, but alas, i don't know much about these things...

i'm hoping its not a warped disc.

anyone have a clue?

thx

I have a ZZR with the same noise. I have checked the rear disc its grooved a warped I am going to change it
My NC29 rear disc is in much better condition and no noise , I have cleaned both still got the noise on the ZZR , its worse when the break disc warms up
Hope this helps

Sounds like a set of new pads and disc...

If its when you use it, it could be the sliding pins that the calipers on need a clean and some fresh grease? 8-)

1) you need to get a manual & some spanners
2) unbolt the caliper from the rear while still attached by the brake hose.. remove the end can first.
3) check the wear level of the pads. do you see a wear groove?
4) clean with a wire brush all around the callipers/pads/pins.
5) reassemble back on to bike & see how it goes.

its not always a warped disk.. often just the calipers need a good clean from the road crud.
