NC23 distant to fuel ratio

i filled up £10 from just under reserve the other day. i done about 90km before i hit the reserve again..

is that good or bad?

That depends, have you been thrashing the tits off it or riding it like a granny?

That comes out at about 40MPG or something like that which is not good if you've been riding sensibly, but if you've been revving it quite hard then it's not too bad.

If it helps I do around 10 to 12 miles per litre, with around 2/3rds at the higher 70+ motorway speeds, Im nearly always in the fast lane for sure. And around a 1/3 in normal stop start traffic. But I always work on 10 miles, gives leaway on fill up times. I ride pretty carefully with bursts of anger when I "think" theres no one around.

Fill your tank to the brim, zero your tripmeter then ride as normal.
Next time you fill up brim it up again and get a receipt with the amount of fuel you have put in.
Then go off this calculation -- litres divide by 4.5 (which will give you gallons)
--mileage done divide by gallons = your exact mpg.

would a hole in the exhaust about the size of your palm make a difference to fuel consumption?

im purchasing pipes from Billing so im hoping my mpg will increase..

my riding style is varied.. i'll cruise at 30mph in top gear at about 4k revs and i done mway speed yesturday from Porndog's at 70mph top gear at 6 or 7k revs but there is also times when i drag off the lights to about 10k revs then into second (by that time im already breaking the speed limit)

i also rev on the spot when slowly riding, clutch in and 2 or 3 quick pulls on the throttle which wouldnt be good for fuel i know

its just that porndog said it smelt like im running rich, do any of you know any tests of how to find this out?

On a good day that should take you 120-130km. But you aren't counting any fuel you replaced under the reserve line, so as above, start keeping a fuel spreadsheet if it's bothering you. With the price of fuel it should be bothering you!

The exhaust leak might or might not be a problem. Ive never let a bike get that bad to know!

So you have a dirty great hole on your pipes but you're sitting at the lights revving it like a chavvy twat? You must realise you look stupid doing that with a broken exhaust. Everyone who sees you thinks twat, maybe some give you the benefit o the doubt and assume that the bike will stall if you don't rev it. Stop doing that!

More seriously if it smells rich, start by investigating your air filter.

i dont sit there revving the nuts of it like a chav.. my dad has always done it with his bike so i guess ive got it has a habbit now aswell..

when i purchased the bike he said theyre was a little hole in the exhaust but when i got it home and checked i couldnt find nothing so i presume he patched it up and its broke away again.. i have a new zaust coming through anyway :D

I used to get 100 miles on mine if I was riding reasonably sensibly, but could go as low as 70 if I rode like a nobber, or as high as 120 if I was on a run/riding very carefully.
