More Stupid Newbie Question NC24-Chain Adjusting

I need to pull up this thread, because I ran into some kind of Problem.

At the last tour on saturday we recognized, that the chain on my wifes NC24 was way to tight.

So I wanted to adjust the chain slack today.
Loosend the two bolts, adjusted the tension and tightend both bolts back up again.

Now comes the problem:

While roling the bike in the garage you can notice that the tension changes from one wheel rotation to another.

tight as hell...loose...tight as hell...maybe tight...okay tension...loose .

It changes very randomly.

So i tried to clean up the bolts.

One could be threaded out, the other one could be pulled out without threading.

And both bolts have nuts on the ends.

According to this pictures number 29 does not have any nuts to be secured...grmpf

So can you tell me if those two bolts are threaded into the pinching part of the rear hub or if they are indeed secured with nuts?

Im starting to believe that the previous owner has ruined those threads and just tried two use longer bolts and nuts to cover up is.......mishap.

On the 30 it;s a single bolt into the arm - I suspect your previous owner has threaded the arm....

Either that or your chain has stiff links.

I suspect the tapped holes in the arm have been destroyed and long bolts and nuts added. Also agree with MadMotoUK that chain and sprockets appear to be stuffed. How far can you pull the chain off the rear sprocket and does the distance change depending on the position of the wheel.

So finally some updates.

Sorry it did take me some time.

It was a little bit of everything:

1. Yes the threads on one of the tensioning bolts are wasted --> longer bolts with nuts on both sides so you didnt see it right away
2. The Regina chain was wasted, some links were stiff.
3. After Removing the front sprocket cover I discovered that the locking washer thing and the front spocket both were wasted and had way too much play / slack on the output shaft.
4. After disassembling the rear hub I found the outer bearing (the one on the rear sprocket assembly) had too much play and needed to be replaced as well.

So I cleaned everything as much as possible and changed the chain and sprockets as well as the one mentioned bearing.
This seems to have done the trick, after adjusting the tension and doing a short testdrive everything staid well :-)
