VFR exhaust question.

Post by Paul » Sat Jul 26, 2008 3:30 pm

Hi there I'm new to the forum I've recently bought a VFR400R NC30 1989, great bike it's just not loud enough with the standard can so I've decided I want a Maggot can. Only problem with that is I don't want to have modify my standard exhaust in order to fit it on as I think this would be sacrilegious! So I'm wondering would I be able top get a link pipe to fit the maggot from anywhere? A full system is a tad expensive. I’ve emailed Tyga asking if they supply one and I’m awaiting a response from them.

Another question, mine’s an import so restricted to 112mph is there a limit on revs as well? I’ve seen a black box thing on eBay that said it let the bike rev higher and takes the Jap restriction off . I’m only wondering as I intended on just buying an KMH to MPH converter unit so I’ll be able to go full speed without the restrictors kicking in because I’m not going to reach 180, but if I can get some more revs through the gears I’d rather buy that.

I’ll add some pics of my bike just for you all to see:

What do you think?

Many thanks, Paul.

Before anyone mentions the chicken strips, the pics were taken when I first bought it and I hadn't even ridden it.

Hi and welcome,

exhaust - you will need either a 3/4 system if you dont want to cut your std system.
personally, i would avoid the maggot. too loud for road use, and looks poor imo.
tyga do a nice exhaust, the oval on, or just get a can off another bike with the appropriate inlet size...

Restrictor - the plug in units will have the same effect as the speedo convertor. you can just use a resistor for this mod, the grand sum of 20p. search the site, will be a post or 2 about it.

Hi there thanks for the reply I'll look into the resistor mod. When you say too loud, have you heard one? For comparissons sake would you say louder than an R1 with straight through pipes, if it is then I might just avoid.

if your not overly fussed on playing with your electrics or have the tools, a member rick oliver does the resister in a small plug and play box for £6. a better option than the m max box restrictor which sells for daft money

maggot is too loud and really only for taking the piss.

if you don't want to cut the o/e system, and I recommend you don't, then take it off and sell it. you can get a jap system or similar for the cash you would get for an unmolested std system

welcome to the forum too ;)
