Race NC30 Questions
Hey All,
I am in the process of prepping my 89 NC30 for post-classic racing and have hit a bit of a dilemma.
I need to get hold of some spare rims for wets and am wondering what the options are. I placed an order with Delkevic, but they just refunded my money and said that they don't make them anymore.
I really like the idea of going to a 17" rear for choice in rubber - What other options are there for spare rims? Any options considered at this point.
ps. I'm in New Zealand, so going through ebay isn't as easy as in the UK!
Thanks
Luke

Re: Race NC30 Questions
RVF rear is your best option, 17" and bolts straight on with no modifications. Thr ride height is compromised slightly so you can fit the RVF dogbone. Not a great drama in my opinion, I've swapped from 17 to 18 in consecutive races with no issues.
The other more complicated option is VFR750 swing arm and rear wheel. Not too sure about it, do a search and see what comes up.
Not sure what your availability is like in NZ, RVF wheels are available in UK for about £100.

How hard can it be?

The ride height isn't an issue as I have an aftermarket shock with ride height adjuster to compensate

Re: Race NC30 Questions
VFR 750 wheels fit with a kit from forum member Rick Oliver (it involves an exchange of your hub for one of is modified ones)
Also Honda Bros wheels fit with some modification.
I managed to fit a modifed Ducati 748 wheel to my NC30 but it involved offsetting the wheel by 4.5mm to the right and a spacer being made too.
Hope this is of some use

Re: Race NC30 Questions
NC35 wheel has to be the easiest way
Or just buy some 18 inch wets? Bridgestone do some and they kick arse.
I have a Bros wheel too - but you'd get raped for postage on it.
hmm..how cheap can you get a 5 spoke 5 inch VFR750 wheel? The hub off Rick is a good kit...

Luke, delkevic 17" rears are listed on Oz ebay, they might send to NZ if you contact them:lukemillar wrote:I'm in New Zealand, so going through ebay isn't as easy as in the UK!

If they don't post to NZ I can buy it for you and send it over.

Appreciated Cammo, but $380 AUD for one wheel!!? They seemed way cheaper in the UK at 139 GBP! (even with the shipping)Cammo wrote:Luke, delkevic 17" rears are listed on Oz ebay, they might send to NZ if you contact them:lukemillar wrote:I'm in New Zealand, so going through ebay isn't as easy as in the UK!

Re: Race NC30 Questions
Hey all,
Ok, I have a few options! Ideally I'd like to stick with 17's so I can run supercorsa's and I don't want to mix and match between dry 17's and wet 18s - especially if I am compensating for ride height!
I was really playing on the UK/US exchange rate not being too hot right now (good for me!) but Australia is even stronger than us. I really appreciate the offer Cammo, but I think unless I can source from within NZ then US/UK will definitely be the way to go.
Also, just a bit of background:- The post-classic class is pre-89 junior (Junior meaning up to 600cc) I will always be down powerwise on the 600s (a few guys have shoehorned 600 motors in 400 frames) so the plan is to concentrate on handling and weight.
Any advice or tips with that in mind would be much appreciated!

Re: Race NC30 Questions
No worries, I didn't realise they were so cheap in the UK/US.
Weight reduction and handling improvements will be your best bet I think up against 600cc. You can take a fair bit of weight off the nc30, but getting below 150kg is difficult without a bit of effort (or money) depending on what mods are allowed in your class.

What other mods are you allowed? Brakes? Suspension? Charging system? Original tank, etc?lukemillar wrote:The post-classic class is pre-89 junior (Junior meaning up to 600cc) I will always be down powerwise on the 600s (a few guys have shoehorned 600 motors in 400 frames) so the plan is to concentrate on handling and weight.

Re: Race NC30 Questions
Brakes - must remain period. I have just rebuilt these with new seals, lines and pistons and they are pretty good. Suffering from some crappy pads, but that is an easy fixCammo wrote:hat other mods are you allowed? Brakes? Suspension? Charging system? Original tank, etc?
Suspension - Shock is open, fork legs and type have to remain period. I think the most I can do here is springs, oil and emulators.
Charging system - Open. Are you thinking total loss?
Tank - Not sure on this one. I know Carbon fibre is out unless it is of the period (lol)
The class is relatively open, but I'd much rather have a lighter, great handling bike than going for the tuned engine, big bore, chasing HP etc. reliability gamble. I think a full system, HRC airbix/carbs and a re-jet is about as much as I will do.
Cheers for the eight link - that is pretty handy.
