Product review - Spike16's QA throttle.

Post by Malc » Fri Oct 08, 2010 6:17 pm

Well, not much of a review, but certainly an endorsement! Spike16's Quick Action Throttle for the NC30/35...

It arrived yesterday in the post, and was unpacked before it left the postman's hands. Initial impressions were very good - looks the part, looks well-made, and finish was excellent - black anodised body and turned ally for the throttle tube.

Into the garage I go (don't you just love working from home!), rip the original Honda fare off and proceed to fit the replacement. Fitment was as you'd expect, easy. Snapped the throttle a few times and to my dismay it was sticking and not opening sometimes. Initially I thought this was due to the sideplay, but when I looked at the original I see the cable hooks into the middle of the outer barrel. Spike16's comes with three positions for the cable nipple, so I moved it to the centre one which is far closer to the Honda position, tried again and everything was great. Full throw in a ball-hair under a quarter turn, and it snaps closed immediately again, so (somewhat reluctantly cos its a race bike and fuckin' loud) I started the engine...

All went great until the neighbour appeared and moaned about the noise, so I switched it off again (and told him under my breathe to fuck off, moaning old cunt) to keep said neighbour sweet. Took it apart to give a liberal smear of ordinary grease for good measure, and back together again.

So to summarise - for £40 you can't and won't go wrong. My problems were entirely my own doing cos I rushed to get the old one off and never thought to check the simple things first. Relocate the cable to where it should go and all was well. It's a quality piece of kit - looks good and is made good. Thanks Spike16!

PS - Paul, how about making this sticky for a while to give the guys a chance to see it? Or even better, a forum wholly dedicated to product reviews in the Traders Post?

Malc, good review, doesn't it use just one cable? or does it use two?

Yes mate, just the single cable, but I've never considered this an issue cos the racebike has always been single cable for me anyway.

Nice review Malc! :peace: I received mines of Spike16 through the post on Wednesday this week. All packed secure and it arrived safe and sound. Unpacked it and checked this QA throttle...very well made. I hope to get it on my project bike this weekend. Your write up will definately help me out on what to look for when I try to get it fitted.

@Spike16, very well made piece of kit! Superb to get these for fellow members :geek:

Thanks all!

Way thanks for the kind review guys I should have said about the 3 holes, its so a range of different cables can be fitted easily, I found on an rvf or vfr the centre is the best one. also I greese the inner of the tube to help it on the bar.

hope everyone has recieved their throttles now and is getting on with them as much as Malcom! and his neighbour!
