It arrived yesterday in the post, and was unpacked before it left the postman's hands. Initial impressions were very good - looks the part, looks well-made, and finish was excellent - black anodised body and turned ally for the throttle tube.
Into the garage I go (don't you just love working from home!), rip the original Honda fare off and proceed to fit the replacement. Fitment was as you'd expect, easy. Snapped the throttle a few times and to my dismay it was sticking and not opening sometimes. Initially I thought this was due to the sideplay, but when I looked at the original I see the cable hooks into the middle of the outer barrel. Spike16's comes with three positions for the cable nipple, so I moved it to the centre one which is far closer to the Honda position, tried again and everything was great. Full throw in a ball-hair under a quarter turn, and it snaps closed immediately again, so (somewhat reluctantly cos its a race bike and fuckin' loud) I started the engine...
All went great until the neighbour appeared and moaned about the noise, so I switched it off again (and told him under my breathe to fuck off, moaning old cunt) to keep said neighbour sweet. Took it apart to give a liberal smear of ordinary grease for good measure, and back together again.
So to summarise - for £40 you can't and won't go wrong. My problems were entirely my own doing cos I rushed to get the old one off and never thought to check the simple things first. Relocate the cable to where it should go and all was well. It's a quality piece of kit - looks good and is made good. Thanks Spike16!
PS - Paul, how about making this sticky for a while to give the guys a chance to see it? Or even better, a forum wholly dedicated to product reviews in the Traders Post?
