My NC29 Build so far

Post by neilwilson » Sat Sep 11, 2010 6:30 pm

Right, bought a sorry excuse of NC29 on 02/09/10 - previous owner had butchered it to bits creating a streetfighter that wouldnt run!.

Stripped the bike down to investigate the cause.

With a bit of patience and plenty of long nights in the garage found that my TPS was knackered (plastic bit sheared off) foud this by checking resistance across 2 pins and turning throttle. Resistance should drop from 5 ohms(mine didnt).

Replaced it and bike started....

but it wouldnt rev past 5K.
Stripped the front end and found a disgrace of a wiring harness. Wires cut and left lying LIVE... Speed restriction wires had been hacked at and wrapped together!!

Sorted wiring as per drawing in manual..Very very helpful page. Started and revved without problem.

Next was to sort bodywork. Some CBR600RR fairings ordered, CBR600RR headlight ordered, clip on handle bars ordered, Double bubble screen ordered, CBR600R fuel tank ordered, New clocks ordered, CBR600RR forks ordered, New heel plates ordered.

Orders start to arrive and sent for painting.

Fairings arrive back.

Now to mount them. This is very tedious and at times i was wishing i had four arms!.
I have today lined up the bits and fastened in place temporarily with cable ties so i could measure up brackets for fabricating.
Heres some pictures of it lined up temporarily and i would appreciate any thoughts before i start to get to work.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, seems very much to me young man, that you have indeed purchased a pup
masquerading as an NC29. If my memory serves me right your bike looks very much like the Itchyfanny 400 -
a not very well known scratcher from the mid '80's and you are correct in thinking that it needs to be maintained or modified by Octopussy herself.

I myself am an advocate of the tie wrap body kit brigade, but don't forget gaffer tape is your friend!
My last bike, a Raleigh Chopper had a zebra stripe seat held together with a combination of the above mentioned
fixings - seemed like a good idea 'til I indulged in a bit of stoppying, slid forward on the seat and done me nuts on the gear stick! Oh how we all laughed

Nice to see some FMB going on, gotta go now - my teabreak's over and I've got to get back on me head.

The fairing kit was relatively cheap, considering. Its not a genuine kit, and the description for it stated that some holes may require modification but i figured seen as though i have to fabricate brackets myself it wouldnt be a problem. Headlights, forks and tank seem to be the expensive parts. Let me know if your considering installing fairings and i can forward the drawings for brackets required if you want.
