NC24 - help, my rear caliper fell off!

Post by l00k3y » Thu May 20, 2010 1:01 am

Hiya guys, I know I'm new to the forum, been lurking for the past couple of weeks.

Got my NC24 a couple of weeks ago (see my introduction post) and passed the MOT today

within hours of passing my rear caliper fell off and jammed in the back wheel at about 50mph. I was lucky in that it didn't lock up the back wheel. I hadn't checked the rear caliper since I bought the bike (I'm kicking myself on this one as I totally rebuilt the front calipers and MC, ignored the back one as it was seemingly fine, working well and passed on the first MOT). It's destroyed the caliper - only the piston is salvageable and the line is torn up, where the caliper has come off it's taken lovely chunks out of the back wheel and made a right mess!

I'm desperately looking for anyone with a rear caliper that would fit and/or pads / caliper bolts / pins etc to fit. Any bit would help but really as cheap as possible as I've just totally rinsed myself out of money buying the bike and getting it sorted (I had 8 seperate fails on my first MOT attempt, fixed them all with no experience and it was passed today). I'm not sure I've even posted this in the right section - mods if I have, apologies and please correct me in my ways?

anyways here's a couple of pics for your enjoyment, I have yet to see the full extent of the damage until tomorrow when I have some sunlight  :

It'll be right mate, not much that xcan't be fixed up.

Try a wanted post in the classifieds section, I don't think it will take too long to find some parts.

It fell off!?

Thats quite bad.. the bolts must have worked themselves loose.. i'd check over all the bike to make sure that everythings tightened up properly, otherwise you'll be loosing more bits as you drive.

Really quite lucky there that it didn't throw you off.

Check on ebay too, theres always usually plenty of calipers floating around.

The NC21 / NC24 use different rear calipers though so make sure you get a 24 model

yup, it's as it sounds I'm afraid. literally fell off the caliper bracket and was hanging by the brake line jamming itself in my back wheel :| only bit that is salvageable from the caliper is the piston and the bleed nipple.

Make sure you check over all of the bike then, make sure nothing else hasn't been finger-tightened.

A bike I was riding back once the exhaust dropped off as the owner hadn't tightened it up after messing with it :/
