I have a 1989 NC30 (completely standard) which when i bought never had a exhaust heat shield. I was wondering did all NC30s come with heat shields or did the early ones like mine not have one? and how can i find out?

They all had them, but most people take them off as they are naff....
If you run nice aftermarket pipes then you also want to show them off. The heat is not a problem..

can you get them off without taking the exhaust off then?
(thinks of something free to do to the bike

)

Cheers for that guys. Just need to decide whether i want one, or i leave the pipes showing as it was.
I want to put it back to standard (or as close) so my perfection head says i should get one to complete the project... But I've got myself some Tyga rearsets and i'm not sure if they fit with the heat shield or not? they look good and if the pipes are cleaned it would be a shame to hide everything.

Banoffee,
The heat shield is attached to the Right hand footrest hangar, so you can get it off without taking exhaust off. There are two 6mm(10mm spanner size) bolts that hold it on.
Its easier to take the hangar off to get to them though, saves skinned knuckles!

Ive just finished mirror polishing the downpipes and have decided to leave the heatshield off too. It was going rusty anyway.
Only prob now is that the rear brake light spring has done a runner...........bugger!
