Group Buy - Honda 400cc +1mm pistons -
Hi all,
We have had contact with a company that can provide +1mm oversized pistons for NC23/29/30/35
These are the maximum allowed overbore for racing.
I have asked them for costings for a group buy deal and we need to know if there are enough people that want enough sets of pistons to make this viable.
Please reply in here and ask your questions - I don't mind managing it as I reckon I want a set for my bike!

Nice one Mark, kudos for taking the bull by the horns!
I'm very interested, however, like yourself no doubt I'd like a couple of questions answered. What is the weight like compared to standard for example. Will they raise compression more than a set of RVF pistons (which I'm using at present) dramatically, and will they be able to do one offs in the future without incurring massive tooling costs, or will they keep a stock of these after the batch run in the event of anyone experiencing engine failure.
For me the last question is very important, as it would make the difference between ordering 4 or possibly 8 if its a one off batch.
Anyway Mark, food for thought. Keep 'er lit!

Just out of interest, who is going to bore out the block? Is this easily sorted?

What you need to do is send an email with your requirements/questions etc to Sarah, she is on
info@omegapistons.com They are going to collect together your requirments, then get back to everyone when they know what you want. The first price was based on just one set of four pistons for me.£106 inc rings pin and clips. It will come down with more orders. They can do higher compression, and they are lots lighter than standard.Best thing is ask.

Absolutely, I couldn't agree more, however since Mark has agreed to compile a group order and asked for any questions to be posted in here, thats exactly what I've done. That way he can contact the company direct with a list of relevant questions rather than Sarah having to deal with a hundred nonsense emails, all asking the same thing.
A big cheers and massive respect to yourself racesupplies, (Karl is it?) for all the legwork and sourcing a good supplier.

Now then...response from the lovely lady dealing
Our prices depend on quantity ordered. You can use the following as a rough guide (12 pistons are our minimum order quantity):
12 pistons £105.00 each + VAT including rings, pins and clips
16 pistons £95.00 each + VAT including rings, pins and clips
20 pistons £85.00 each + VAT including rings, pins and clips
40 pistons £75.00 each + VAT including rings, pins and clips
The above prices are based on a forged piston (providing we have a suitable forging), fully skirted, with standard rings, pins and circlips, at 1 bore diameter (for example, +1mm oversize). Coatings, carriage and any “ad-hoc” machining or processes would be charged separately.
I'll ask the questions that you posted chaps and will see what we get.
From the sounds of things Our friend Racesupplies has dealt with these people before and has good things to say about them. I am happy to be the person doing to emailling etc as I am able to do it when supposedly working...like now.
Standard bore is 55mm so we want a 56mm bore piston.
Also, a standard RVF piston offers the most compression in a CBR - so we would like a touch more crown to raise that further and to make the VFR/RVF users buy in to the increased performance. Wrist pin fitment as per standard
The weight is important too - I'll ask.
Ref boring the blocks - we would be best served to have the pistons on hand for the machinist to go with but if there were the takers we might find someone willing to take on a few engines at once and perhaps get a saving that way?

Stealing a bit from the g-force piston thread.... http://www.400greybike.info/newforum/vi ... 10&start=0
Note: The g-force pistons there are 2mm over... but the compression height should be the same if I understand things correctly.
I'd like mine the same spec as an RVF piston, but with 1.25mm Shorter Compression Height and +1mm overbore.
I'm good for 2 sets, 8 pistons total... I just emailed Sarah.

Count me in for two sets with raised crowns, might go to more if you need to make up the numbers.
