Your opinion please

Post by crofty7 » Thu Oct 08, 2009 9:19 pm

Unfortunately my job is no longer as secure as i thought it were and in 6 months time i could be out of a job so i need to improve my financial situation to ready myself for the worst so all my toys must go. I need your opinion on what i should be asking for my 1992 nc30.

I bought it this year for £900 as a non runner, the plonker had race plugs in and the fuel tap turned off so he couldn't start it!! I was planning to do some trackdays this year on it and as some of you may know they were both unsuccessful due to the following problems; one electrical (bad earth) and split brake hose, and the other and now current worn clutch.

A mechanic friend of mine who happens to be Chris Walkers chief mechanic has done the following work:

New fork seals, dust seals and oil
Reset valve clearances
Cleaned and balanced carbs
Replaced shit denso plugs with NGK ER9EH's
Removed coolans sytem, cleaned, flushed and installed new coolant
Repaired fan which was not working
New HEL braided on rear and new Goodrige on front with new oil
Oil and filter change
New sprokets and chain
New bridgstone BT090's which have only done 20mins at cadwell
New rear sets

As i have found that the clutch is worn my mechanic friend will be sorting this too with the following work taking place:

Remove sump and clean (good practice he tells me)
New clutch plates
New clutch cable
New oil and filter

I also have a few spares which include:

New HEL braided front hoses
Crash bungs (not had chance to fit)
Various pegs, levers, hoses etc

I plan to do the work on the clutch before i sell it. The bike has a V5 and can be put back on the road (full loom intact and on the bike). It starts fine without the need of the choke and the engine for its age is really really quiet. Now should i sell the bike as it is and not do the work, do the work and then sell and what should i ask for it? If someone offered me a grand as it is then i would be happy. What you think :?:

I personally wouldn't go any lower than £1500 with all that work done

Your price is about right. £1000-1200 is about the right money. Regardless of all the work that was carried out and regardless who by, that's all its worth. Looks nice and has had the important stuff attended to so I can't see you having an issue in selling it. E-Bay might be the best place for it with a £1000 reserve.
Ducati 916, not worth a carrott

gareths right, it may be a nicer better looked after bike than the vast majority of ebay shite, its still non standard paint which puts off most of the people with money who are prepared to pay good money as they often want standard paint and panels. remember for not much more money you can buy a ZX6 or a SRAD or something quicker and newer, your average kid just wants a fast modern bike which rules alot of buyers out of a expensive NC.
i reckon a grand all day long, much more at this time of year your doing well

I'm a realist and the work i had done was for my piece of mind and benefit not as a selling tool. People don't really give a shit what you've had done as long as they like it, want it and get it for what they seem as a bargain.

Probably an obvious question but should i get the clutch done before trying to sell it, would you pay a grand for a bike that needs work, i know i did but not sure if others would?

personally no i wouldn,t , you try sell it and say oh it only needs a clutch it sounds like neglect and people think yeah and what else ?? i,d price up getting it sorted and either sell it done or with a full engineers report.

I wouldn't pay £1000 for a standard NC30 trackbike, nevermind one that needs work.
