1985-88 RVF400 TT-F3 pics - finally found some!

Post by Cammo » Sun Oct 04, 2009 11:15 am

I've been looking for ages, finally found some! Gotta love this old V4 heritage. 8-)

Pics below of the 1985-88 honda HRC RVF400 F3 racers. I assume after this time that rules stated that they had to be based on production bikes (e.g. 1989 NC30 F3 racer instead of RVF)?

Taken from: VFR a Go! Go! - http://members.jcom.home.ne.jp/tuma/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; [TT-F3 info under 'extras']

I've translated some of the text, basically the racebikes above are very high spec for the time, no surprise as they weren't based on road versions - you'd never get the weight down that much if they were!

The site also has all of the TT-F3 race results for those years. Yamaha raced a YZF400 alongside the RVF400's above.

It would have been a full house race engine, probably not something you would want to put in a mass produced bike!

85hp is very impressive for a 20 year old 400cc engine (using 20 year old technology), probably comparable to what goes into world supersport 600cc engines these days. It used titanium valves and lots of other expensive/light parts, magnesium body carbs also probably.

Forget the power, look at the weight!! :shock:

One of the NC21 tri-color schemes was based on the 86 RVF400 ^_^

Also I had a quick look on Honda's official website for you Stickshift.

http://www.honda.co.jp/collection-hall/2rrace/93.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Japanese Wiki article.. only the first paragraph relates the the 80's RVF

http://www.weblio.jp/content/%E3%83%9B% ... 3%83%BBRVF" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Oh haha, I just realised something:

http://www.jacksons-lair.co.uk/VFR400R-NC24-Specs.zip" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If you download the NC24 sales brocher from my website.

Look at the last page (Page 10)

The NC24 is being endorsed by the RVF400 1986 F3 winner :)
