So decided to busy myself with stripping it down..

Image

Image

Image

spark plugs are tiiiiiiiny!

Image

Then decided to do a little engineering.. only done 1 or 2 helicoils in the past.. but this one went well.. First used a 2mm drill to drill through the middle of the bolt.. Then a 4mm Tapped it out and found the hole has been ovalised so went with a M6 tap to replace the m5 bolt.. worked a treat.

Image

Just waiting on a 41mm socket and I'll do the head bearings.. decided the frame isn't worth powercoating, will check on the condition of the swingarm next.

frustrating couple of days..

Front wheel is too foobar'd to fix.. located another for £82.. anonying but not the end of the world I guess. When the front arrives both wheels will go off to ze powercoaters.

Decided to continue the strip down of the rear end.. What a Bitch that was! everything was siezed, so brought out the big guns and a few hours later the swingarm and shock components were apart. The bolts were totally white with oxidation even with the nuts removed I needed to drift and twist them out..

windy gun and 41/46mm sockets were my friend and a special castle nut tool

Image

chain angle grinded off

Image

rear caliper might need some work

Image

Some vandal's ripped half the splines off the chain adjuster.. I'm watching a complete swingarm on ebay, but i reckon there's enough left on this one should I not win it..

Image

Complete hub ready for degrease

Small rockery in the swingarm

Image

every bit of work i do and it's looking less like a bike... hopefully will get to put bits ON it soon

Image

time to tackle the head bearings...

old ones were pitted and dead

Image
Image
Image

removing the bottom race was a complete pain in the arse.. gave up in the end and attacked the bottom dust seal and race carefully with the grinder..

Image

new races were taper bearings

Image

and went in easily

Next job was caliper rebuild.

First the rear

Next job the swingarm

I bought a replacement swingarm off fleebay which was much better. However some cockend had cross threaded the nut which held on the sprocket carrier.. One big windy gun and air chisel later.. it was seperated, but i needed to use the axle of the original swingarm..

Much cleaning later, the hub bearings were good. But it needed new swingarm bearings. Linkage is gettng replaced with a jackup kit with new pressed bearings which i can't do at home. Collect those later in the week so the swingarm can be refitted.

bike looks quite sad without a swingarm

That's some fine work you have going on there. Will be a great project to follow.
