Hi,

I have just bought a NC24 and want to use it as a track bike and want to use slicks does anyone know how were to get slick for the size wheels 18 rear and 16 front or is there any other wheels off another bike that i can put on that wont affect the handling better sizing? i have heard you can put a 150 section on the original rear with no problem ? could you put a NC30 front wheel to balance it out?

Thanks :-)

'No problem' isn't strictly true.. 150 is oversize for the 3.5 rear rim, but it will fit (might vary with different tyre manufactures)

The NC30 front wheel might be difficult to fit but not impossible... (different discs / spindle / no speedo drive / spacers)

Why slicks though?

I would reccomend BT39's.

I have a set on the NC24 at the moment.. They are harder to come by than the BT45 touring tyre.

NC24 makes a bad choice for track-bike (if you experienced rider) much better to spend money on NC30/35 and use BT090 tyres. (also benefit from improved suspension and brakes)

However, it does make a good track bike if you novice. But in this case stick with BT39. Cheap to buy, lots of fun to ride, quick, light steering (due to 16" front). Adequate brakes.

Even with BT39 in dry conditions it is perfectly possible to lean the bike far enough to grind away most of the side stand / lower fairings and anything else you have down there and still maintain good grip.

You would need to be very good (or very dangerous) to outride a well set-up stock NC24, the best improvements you can make to it (which are also easiest) is to upgrade suspension (look at hagon monoshock / cbr600rr shock), stiffer springs / heavier oil in the front forks.. also drill out the rebound holes in the damper rods a few mm.

Get the best brake pads you can afford, braided hoses in race setup, good quality fresh brakefluid and make sure the calipers are in good working order (seals ok / sliders greased and moving)

Making it handle and stop better will improve your trackday times more than a set of slicks.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply as you can tell yes i im a novice and yes i wish i had saved a bit more for the nc30 now! collector box issues say no more !!!! but the guy was throwing the bike away for 100quid could not let it go for that and appart from that the bike is sweet as a nut only slight cosmetics not much of problem for a track bike.

Will defo take your advice on the suspension set up. Do you know what year cbr 600rr shock will fit? that sounds ideal.

I think i will also go with the BT39 save changing the wheel and risk buggering up the standard setting plus this will like you say be cheaper

Thanks again for your help appreciate it need all the help i can get :-)

Nothing will fit straight on but modding the shock to fit is rather easy.

Somone on here has one fitted to his, have a look in the graphics section of the forum...
