Just to let everyone know that after lots of searching, I have tracked down a source of second hand motrax type speedo converters ( blue at the back of the clocks and gold at the wheel)

They are available in limited numbers from Stuart at 'Blacks of Ormskirk' ( 01704 897 551) for a reasonable £15 - £20

I have seen quite a few on ebay going for between £35 and £50 as they seem to know that everyone wants them.

Mine arrived in 2 days and looks like new

Cheers

Neil

Neil, Not dealt with them before have you ? i really hope you are not from blacks trying to get some traffic thier way seeing as there is a load of clapped out overpriced NC30 shit on ebay at the moment ? ;)
they have earned quite a reputation over the years in and around the northwest, and i learned a valuable lesson once first hand, when getting stuff delivered from a breakers - lets say one with a v dodgy past in the northwest, always use your works address for delivery.
Of course thats just me being sceptical, and after dealing with them first hand as have many others there is no smoke without fire.

examples did i hear you cry ? where to start ? ok heres a gem. my brother purchased an old style cbr1000 in repsol aftermarket paint. now shortly after getting it for a stupid price he discovered no engine number and a dodgy looking tampered frame number. After asking blacks about this he was sent off with a flea in his ear. now funnily enough 2 days later the bike was stolen never to be seen again - well i say again, a couple of months later an identical bodykit with non matching seat unit and scuff on the nose cone was for sale on ebay - and guess who the seller was - go on, you will never guess.
many more from where that came from too, a story of a FZR600, a WR426, 3XV fairing kit c/w datatag transponder still in the tank, and one of our chaps who comes out with us from traffic often tells tales of madness from allsorts of raids and finds.

However thats a dead cheap price for the converters. now i would be keeping an eye on your ballance over the coming weeks.

I know wht you mean about Blacks. I was in the motorcycle trade for over 20 years until a bad accident in Africa, in 2002, on an XR400 put paid to that.

Blacks always had a reputation then for being dodgy and selling shite. You can see they still do that with what they sell on ebay. I was very dubious about deling with them at first, but the item wasn't a great deal of money so I thought I would take a chance.

Having said that I emailed about 80 people about the convertors and Stuart came back and honestly described the item. He has others in various degree's of state but at £13, even if they are scuffed etc they can quite easily be polished etc

I bought my NC30 from an old customer that came to my new works to buy a fireplace of all things. We got talking about old times and he made a casual remark about retirng to Spain at the end of the year. He was taking his XR's with him but the roads are no good for his NC. One thing lead to another and I got his NC for £475!!!!

It was in a reasonable Titanium Silver Chesterfield race rep colour but needed some TLC. The last time it was ridden was April 2002!!!. I've now done a total re-strip and re-furb doing as I normally do, going overboard. When I do somethin I am very critical of my work and it generally and honestly comes out better than new. I havent seen much of my missus in 12 weeks!!

Ive just ploughed another £600 in bits and my best mate Steve at Lonsdale Bike in Nelson is doing an original NH1k black / red repaint. He isnt cheap, even at mates rates, but is much cheaper than Race Paints and Dream Machine and his work is MUCH better. Even so this is going to cost me another £600 ish

Still consider it a cheap bike that will be MINT at the end of it. I have a habit of going overboard and 'Christmas Tree'ing everything I get as my bosses say. Good thing is they are always first in line to buy when I eventually sell. Its the first NC that I have ever my last being a new VFR800A3 Vtec ( which was crap after my 2003 Z1000, real mental machine)

I have so far taken 180 photos and I'll upload some as soon as I figure it out on here ( any help here would be greatfully received)

£85 for a speedo convertor?

You can buy a UK set of clocks for that.

I wonder why there in such demand :S Do motrax no longer manufacture them?

I still think MPH dials are the way to go! I think Elliots probably still have some NC30 dials in stock for around £30

You cant find any UK clock, let alone pay £85 for them!

Motrax discontinued the converters 18 months ago and I contacted EVERY Motrax dealer in the country and they have all run out.

Elliots, Peter Tang, Rick and PFK Lings all no longer have the dials, the NC30 club cant get them anymore.
I think that Re-dial have gone bump
I spoke to Lockwood international (who make car dials and used to do some bike dials) but they are not interested

Dave Silver can do a replacement speedo internal (face plus mechanicals) but its a whopping £200.31 plus vat.

I must have contacted about 80 other sources to no avail in the last couple of weeks. Everyone that I have spoken to that owns an NC30, all want an MPH clock face.

If someone started to produce them they would make a killing

I spoke to Motrax a couple of days ago about this and their answer was not that the `blue` converters were discontinued, just that they are waiting for another batch to be manufactured. They did say however that they were unlikely to be delivered until close to the end of this year...
