it didnt make a great deal of difference to my bike, i tried it back to back with the std one on a dyno. It does seem to pick up a bit cleaner and the flatspot at around 6K seems a bit better. they are a lot of money now. Rick oliver sells programmable ones with the hrc map on which are cheaper. and then you can adjust it if you want to

Funny you should ask this...

I recently changed my cdi from an HRC one to a standard one and it suits me better. My bike has hrc carbs, full exhaust, etc.

The hrc unit gave a little more top end, the std one has better midrange, my bike pulled noticeably better out of corners at the revs I was using. Incidentally the bloke I bought it off sold it cheap to me as back to back dyno runs proved the same for him.

Personally I'm happier with a standard unit, if you're a gun of a rider you'd want the hrc unit though.

A programmable unit would be a better option for me (not allowed to race with them in Oz though).
