i know i have a partial success but i set about doing this with the end result being you could run it on a road bike with a rad fan, until i have it like that i have failed, but speaking with rick he suggested a slimline fan from a catelogue he has.
it measures 9 inchs and runs 12v but is somewhere around £40,i'm not feeling the love for that right now but it shows someone out there is making slimline fans and like you said maybe one will be suitable from another bike or scooter.so i might be able to get this running on this bike at some stage, heat has always been a worry but until i can run it and see just how bad the problem is it's just a guessing game.but this oil cooler was for the road (ex-track) bike,i have something else in mind for the "new" track bike and the castrol will stay as it is,it's doing no more miles until i break this road bike.

pure water and water wetter?,i know what pure water is but whats water wetter ? i take it it's a little like coolant but without gycol ?

measurements for MKII's barb where discussed this morning and if time permits it might be done for this weekend..fingercrossed..

if anyone else reading this can suggest a cheaper slimmer rad that may be suitable speak up,like mark said ,my nuts and in the breeze and they are cool alright

"strength to your arm for even getting this far...lots of people talk the talk...but you are walking it!" cheers man,if it wasn't for people like rick oliver and you i wouldn't have got this far for sure :Ass: :Ass:

A shorter barb or one with a bend on it will sort that minor problem; the fan is indeed a bit tricky and I think the solution is getting a slimmer one; I'd take some measurements off the NC's fan, then go pay a visit to a breakers and raid their fan's basket to see what I could find; you never know...
You're close to getting this just the way you want it, so don't go quitting on me now :!: besides, I might want to do this as well at some point, but only if you do it first! :D

yeah i think a shorter barb is the way to go here and one with an angle ...i don't even wanna ask about making that up lol

but i spent an hour or two in the garage last night looking at my problem, one sode of the rad is taking up by the filter etc but the other side is free, getting a big flat rad may not be the answer, maybe a smaller one fitted to the free side is the answer

chatting with gareth this moring trying to find something small and water proof and he came up with this off ebay which got me looking and asking what size these little babies are

has anyone seen one of these gilera scooter and do you know if this is looking promising ?

false alarm guys ,just rechecked and the starter motor is on that side and limits fan depth to under 2.5 inches ....but this might work

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/2005-HONDA-FES-12 ... 286.c0.m14" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

i have asked for measurements and depths ...

How deep is the NC's fan? Was cleaning the Bandit's one just now and measured it: 6cms deep & 17cms diameter, that's with the fan & motor bolted to its round metal cage.

last i measured it it was 55mm deep from the radiatorand i have forgotten how wide it was ...

i've been out on the bike (without bodywork) and it runs and rides fine, unfortunatly i haven't had time to get it really up to running temp but i hope to do this at the weekend. i know i'm cheating as i have no bodywork on and it'll have extra cooling because of it but i needed to do something with it as standing looking at it was geting me down again.

maybe to help with heat i could bop a couple of holes in the panels ala early blades and the '92 suzuka bikes .....i'm not joking .....

have you considered running 2 smaller fans which can be fitted on to your radiator in such a way as to avoid the cooler?

dude ,i'm really not joking ,i spoke to a fella before about doing it and he said if it's done neatly ,anything can look ok.
now i'm not talking 25mm holes all over the place but maybe 3mm holes the same design as the RVF's and maybe in the bottom where tha rad is and up near the top rad.....i'll see how bad/good the cooling is tonight when i take it on a good wee run

Souns cool Royster...get it blasted!

Also - remember that ambient is very low seeing a we missed summer - you might need to see how hot it gets at idle and sitting in a warm garage.

Mine will steadily get hot enough to blow up..

Anyways - payday on tuewday = new lower rad, fitment of race bodywork (that I will drill) and the oil cooler moving to the nose..wicke.d I think I wil have to tape it up to keep a nice 80 degrees.

Saying that - can you recall the ideal temps you want to run the bike at? I know too cold is not good but seem to remember Pat and Slapead discussing the temps when on of them was fitting an electric water pump ages ago.

Graeme - if you read this - what do you tune your moto's to run at? How much cooling is too much?
