oil coolers on nc30's

I don`t know about the SV, but the one I`m sending Rhory is from an FZ600S (Fazer) - it`s the same fitting but only 50mm long as compared to 65mm for the Honda filter. I`ve got them on my stocklist now if anyone else needs one...

i have recieved the bits from rick and i am truely amazed by this mans talent,i want to sit down and photogragh the parts and as they would sit on the motor,the pros and maybe the cons and the problems i am now facing

right so here's a short update of the situation i'm in
the fz filter

nice and short and it fits a treat
the nc30

everyone's seen one of these before so it's nothing new,i just put a picture up to show how tall it sits on the heat exchanger
the area where the exchanger sits with the fan attached to the rad

straight away you can see my problem,i was looking at fitting this on a road bike and i had my hopes up that i could do it until today

not much room in there with the fan on and the exchanger in place


nc30 filter in place on the exchanger,it's never going to fit with the fan on,but it will fit if your just using it on a race bike,ie,lower rad in stock position with no fan,this will work a treat

here's the fz filter on now,it's not touching the fan but it's very close and if you look at the bottom rad mount you'll see it's not attached

it's about an inch and a half out,if i could make a little bracket to extend the lower mount out a little i could secure the rad with fan attached and hopefully there will be enough room for the filter
the only problem now is.....is there enough room to swing the rad forward with the bodywork in place .....

well what are people thoughts on this then,in short the exchanger could be used with an nc30 or fz filter on a race bike(or road bike) without a rad fan

i'm only making it difficult as i wanted to run it a road bike with a fan

how often does the fan cut in during the use the bike gets ? and how effective is it at cooling the bike in those situations ?

if its "not often and not very", or even "fairly often, but not very" is it any loss to chuck the fan ?

i'd hope fitting the oil cooler will help prevent it from running hot (or whats the point?), so again.. would you really miss the fan ?

could you add slimline auxilliary (PC ?) fans elsewhere on the rad (either one) to compensate for the loss of the fan on the lower rad ?

given all this, I'd do what i could to run with the bigger (NC) oil filter, see how it faired re temp, and add more cooling if it needed it.

when stuck in slow moving traffic my bike tends to got hotter than my other '30s,this is probably due to the fact my bottom rad isn't in the greatest condition,this is something i have to look at when i fit this all to the bike

some say chuck it and some say don't but i'm trying to keep it to prove it can work with one and this is how,my first post on this topic asked who has done this,no one to date has so i'm the guinea pig,aboutthe fan,i find when the bike gets hotter than it should the fan kicks in and brings it down to where it needs to be rather quickly,because of this i'm trying to keep it

this is a good question,the way i see it working is it's going to take heat from the oil but put it somewhere else,in the coolant,so maybe the oil will be cooler but the coolant will get hotter and then we go back to why i'm trying to keep the fan,maybe because no one has tried this i could fit it all without a fan and it could be grand (wishfull thinking i think),but we shall see

this was something i was looking at last night,my knowlegde of pc fans isn't great so i was thinking of something off another bike,it would have to be slim (no shit rhory!!) weather proof and be able to work with the bike,again something else i have to look at when it's getting fitted to the bike

i'm curious to ask why run with the nc filter ? do you see the nc filter doing a better job than the fz one ? if so why ?
i have a few small hurdles to jump on my way to fitting this but i hope it will still work and to have it finished for the end of next month

Looking good Rhory.

In my eyes, I see this as a better mod for a road bike rather than a race bike. We run race bikes in some pretty extreme temps here in Aus, and I don't really think theres a need for an oil cooler. But road NC's get extremely hot around town at slow speeds. A fan is a big bonus around town, even if it is just for peace of mind.

If you extend the lower rad brackets, will you run into clearance issues?

the FZ filter will be spot on mate. My last 3 filters have been stumpy ones and it is all good.

Keeping the fan, if you can, would be good as you are putting addtional temps into the coolant from the oil and it may be that it runs hotter on the water gauge.

I thinkt it will be more stable but this is a hunch so might be talking crap!

spacing the lower rad out will be doable - the rads are not that close to the v piece.
