i havnt done mine yet but surly if you marked the original position of the needle first before removing or whatevers behind it, to align the position, you can get it right without haveing it 5mph or whatever out!? unless the clocks/new faces them selfs are out!?

i also read a thread the day saying that if you leave the clocks original and just screw in the mph blue converter on the back , it will deristrict it, cos the needle will never hit the restriction point! is this true?

yes its true, thats what i said originally too but the spacing is much better and speed is higher on the clock at say 30 making it easier to see and it does look better and neater!

Mine is also out by 5mph ish? i thought the needle had spun on the pin some how, i then took my clocks back off/appart and tryed adjusting the possition of needle. i thought i had corrected it, i put the clocks back on and took the bike for a blast... when i stopped at petrol station and hit the kill switch, looked down and noticed the needle up near the 5mph again Huh..? I genuinly belived the mph fascia was ment to be a straight swap for the kph one.
This is bugging me now, ive just read this page and noticed this isnt just me with this issue.. So how do i put this right, could sombody explain whats needed to be done.. is this simple? or am i just simple?
many thanks, moore

You need to mark the spring loaded spinning disc against a fixed point before taking the needle off the spindle.
Of course it's too late now, and that was the same problem I had with a speedo on my nc35 that someone fitted an mph dial to.

I marked the disc in the current [wrong] position, then refitted the needle to where I thought it should be, it was close, but I needed to adjust it once more to get it right.
Knowing that top gear gives 10mph to 1000rpm, [standard gearing] I used the rev counter to calibrate the speedo.
Although I would not advise it, to save fitting the speedo and riding the bike to check the speed, I put the bike on the Abba stand and ran it to 6000rpm in top gear.
If it had leapt off the stand, god knows where it would have ended up. :-(
There are more accurate ways of calibrating, but most are set around 6% fast, so not sure if a dead accurate one would be best.
Dave.

Dave is spot on.

You need to mark the speedo needle before you remove it.. there spring-loaded with x amount of tension on them.

I do it this way... move the speedo needle upto the 80km/h mark. This is 50mph.

TAPE the spring loaded needle mechanisim on the rear with plenty of tape so it will not move.. you'll know if you've done it right as the needle will stay at 80km/h.

Now remove the needle and change the dials.

When fitting the needle back align it to the 50mph mark on the new dials and press it on.

Remove the tape and the needle will go back to 0.

It is now as accurate as it was before!

If you dont' tape it at a fixed point you'll go bat-shit crazy trying to get the right amount of tension back on the needle.

i ripped mine apart before marking it and you can easily ride the bike with the speedo tucked in the nose cone and the sat nav on the tank lol :) took 3 goes to get it spot on and it now reads exactly what speed you do as satelites have set it...standard speedos are all out so you think you're going faster than you are! Just put the two screws in the dail and one in the cover, ride it and see how far its out...then remove the cover, undo the screws holding the facia and let the needle return to a place of rest. spin the facia to a point of choice....say 20mph, pull off the needle and move it by how many mph you were out, push it on again, put the screws back in and do it until its perfect!

Obviously i'd mark it if i'd read this first but its not a disaster if you aint!
