I'm yet to get around to buying the parts, but I'll be getting them from US ebay, cheap on there.Mockery wrote:Got a line on K7 parts at a local wrecker here, but by the time I can afford them they might be gone...

Yep - got a k5 rotor in the post from a nice chap in the USA... £22 delivered
Superb!
@Slapead - yep - Her Highness ganked me for £27 notes...I hope she leaves this next rotor alone!
Ebay USA is the place to look IMO.

Re: Shiny G-Force part has arrived!
Question for those who have the mod installed (I guess maybe just Mike, and Mike...?)
Are there any drawbacks you have found from the lower flywheel weight?
I imagine there would be a reduction in engine braking, although might not be such a bad thing.
The NC30's have some kind of basic 'slipper' clutch, yeah? I've never been able to find much good info on that, but if there's less engine braking I expect it would place less stress on that...

Re: Shiny G-Force part has arrived!
The heavy stock flywheel reduces the engine breaking the most due to inertia. The lighter the flywheel, the faster the engine slows down, similar to a lightened crankshaft. This is most prominent on the bigger engines or twins.Mockery wrote:Question for those who have the mod installed (I guess maybe just Mike, and Mike...?)

The slipper on the NCs works really well. You don't notice it because it works. If it failed working and the rider rode expecting it to be there (assuming the rider is taking advantage of it by downshifting hard and fast into a corner) you better believe there would be a wake-up call and faster heart-rate as the rear wheel started hopping.
The lighter, or lack of, flywheel will pronounce this effect. In turn, it also spins up faster.

A mate has a YEC kit in his 600R, with a lighter flywheel and slipper clutch. The slipper clutch is a dream, i wish someone would produce it for the FZR400. As for the lighterflywheel, it turned the 600R into a rev happy little beast, i like :)

Okay, thanks for that Mike, you're right of course and I should have thought that before...
There were some local guys arguing about ducati performance parts and whether it was the lighter pistons or lighter flywheel which he didn't like:

one guy wrote:"recently had hi-comp pistons and a lightweight flywheel fitted to the sc1000 - pistons i like , flywheel not so sure on, big reduction in engine braking and some of the low torque seems to be missing - like when you give the throttle a twist coming out of the corner , the engine spins up but you dont really seem to be getting that push out of the corner...."
another guy wrote: Initially as you come off the throttle the lack of inertia gives less engine braking momentarily till you start driving the engine with the rear wheel, then it gives more as the rear wheel is trying to overcome compression. Before it had more mass on the crank which helped to overcome compression.
And my seat off the pants tells me this is how it feels.
Throttle response is instant and aggressive. I cannot grab a handful while idling in 1st gear, coz I'll end up on my arse.
This mod was done to my Ducati Monster S4R to make it an evil, nasty wheelie machine...

it all sounds bloody lovely..
I am just waiting on a stator and then I can get mine fitted and go on my sub 1.50 quest at Cadwell..
Having lost a stone and a half this last 7 weeks I reckon I will be rocking it bigtime..lol

Re: Shiny G-Force part has arrived!
I'll revive this thread now that I have had a good weekend to test and sort the front end out.
Mike the triples were perfect. The problem was all down at the wheel and actually a little twist in the swingarm wasn't helping the issue. We were able to get everything dead straight and between the improvement in geometry and the softer springs in the front we were able to pick up a full second over last years times at Jennings GP. That puts me in the 1:22 range around that place.
Well done sir. When I get done with the 560RR project I'll be back to trying to get some more juice out of the 400. I kind of let the ball drop on the cam gears you were doing but I plan to get back to those.
