heres my 2p's Worth

i have a SS Tyga 330mm Can with yamamota pipes, standard polished, painted and bandaged headers, and at 8k RPM it hits the 110dB mark, with baffles i can get is to about the 98dB mark still uncomfortable for riding and the poor fucker that has to follow me.

im in the process of arranging a NEW exhaust becuase the sound 12M allthough nice is pissing me off.

thats a can with fibreglass insulation etc etc,

a maggot is louder and that Akra will be even louder,
it doesnt have the insualtion etc.

its not about the dB level its about the damage it WILL do to your ears and other,

dB is sound pressure NOT volume,

I cant see why you cant understand why this pipe will be loud :? If you fit this to a NC system your removing the only part of the system that baffles to sound and replacing it with a piece of titainium tubing, DB killer or not you are effectively running a open pipe. Now weather thats on 1000cc superbike or a 50cc moped its going to be ear splitting loud.

I use to run a racefit mega on my GSXR 750 which was basically just a titainium cone with minimal packing if any and that was crazy loud. Sounded like nothing else at full chat but it soon pisses you off, and your mates ;)

 Ohh, okay,i understand, looks like ill have to sell it back on ;(

i had already bought it after a few comments that didnt really explain, then when you explained the negatives, i kinda wanted to hear at least some one say, GO FOR IT!!! itll sound great (hahaha) lol, to make my self feel a bit better :S lol.

i dont want a Horrible Sound, nor to Annoy the neighbors/world, i love the sound of the vfr400. and so do every one else i meet,

BUT... i did like the actual Aesthetics and Looks of this Akrapovic Mp, and just would of loved for it being on my vfr. So ill shut up after this, but is there No way of making it Quieter ?
maybe leaving my old can on ? and Photo Shopping it into pictures :geek: lol

thanks to all your replies, like i said before,
this Site has been a brilliant help so far  :rocks:

Fit it, ride it, see if you like it each to there own

you will probably have to fiddle with carbs a fair bit to get it running right

straight through pipes flow alot more exhaust gas than a baffled pipe

what i dont understand is, surely a unbaffled 400 sounds just like a road legal 1000-1300cc Street bike ? therefore you shouldnt get pulled ? Standard exhausts are all subject to the same noise regulations so no matter what size engine they cant go above a certain noise level cant remember the exact figure

so people on GSXR1000s and R1s get pulled for having Stock Exhausts ? No see above

Engine size doesnt really affect exhaust noise its more cylinder volume so a litre v twin will have bigger cylinders than a litre IL4 the volume of fuel burned dictates the sound energy released from the explosion so v twins tend to sound louder

also hwo about people who ride Choppers/harleys etc ? they dont even have Cans :P and they sound Loud as F. do you really want your vfr to sound like a harley

just wondered. thanks Again

I don't Understand much about Setting up Carbs, with this End, will my bike run like CRAP! and flood my Spark plugs etc, or might it just not run as well as before ? a small change ?

and i was using Choppers as an Example: as all of them sound LOUD AS.. i wouldnt mind my bike sounding like a Motogp bike  (like you said, each to their own) dont most Gp bikes have V4/5 ? engines ?

So to be totally honest,, even thought i would love this Can on the end of my Bike (could get it to fit somehow) might this really effect my bikes Engine and Settings etc ? Aside of the whole NOISE Negatives etc.

im led to believe the maximum dB level permitted on uk roads is 100dB 99being the limit,

and there isnt one for cars however you can get a car equivilant ASBO for a loud exhaust.

thats interesting, how do they get them figures form your bike ? how many revs etc ? i wonder lol, ive managed to ride my VFR400 rather quietly with an illegal exhaust before, everytime i notice or see a police car its quite easy to ride low revs n quieter? no ?

Mate 99dB is F' LOUD. It's been 80dB for a long while on new bikes.
