Fiberglass Gel coat options?

If the final surface is as u say gel coat ( this would be the first two coats laid into the mould with a dye or pigment added before the resin and matting is added) then it should be fine, you should have a very shinny and glossy surface, some fairings come with a base coat sprayed on, this is usually because they have used a resin instead of a gel coat

Then i dont see the problem, many race fairings are supplied in gel coat ready to use. Its the unfinished matt looking gel coat like the unpainted tyga fairings that will cause a problem if used unpainted. Saying that if the guy that made them says they need lacquering i can only assume he knows what he's talking about and that they will need lacquering.

Dont take offence but what your planning is a bit of a bodge job and the lacquer will peal sooner or later, the only way to ensure a decent lasting finish is to paint, apply decals then lacquer them. A decent paintjob is never cheap.

It should be fine, if its done with proper 2k lacquer, scotch the panels gently, put stickers on, spay with at least two coat of lacquer rub down over the stickers to make them flat with rest of the fairing but be very carefull, then two more coats of lacquer. There loads of different grades and types of gelcoat me bro inlaw works at a place were they make the stuff (the resins not pannels).
Made best to make sure the gelcoat is compatible with the lacquer first.

Morning all - have spoken to the bloke who made it, and can happily inform you that there is absolutely no need to paint, lacquer or prepare them in any way before use, they are ready to have vinyls applied and use immediately.

Hi, the stickers will peel off in a few months if you dont lacquer them on!!!!

OK, I'll Still look into getting the lacquer, but it can wait till after I get back from the bsb,. The stickers cost me nothing and I can always get another set printed off if they are damaged during the trip before I get it lacquered
